I've just recieved a new lost river pack. Man it is nice and fits up real comfortable. If you have experience with one I would like your evaluation of this pack.

When I decided to buy a quality pack about 8-9 years ago, that's the one I picked and have not been sorry.  My hunting parner has one also and I saw him stuff an elk hind quarter (must have been 80#) into that expandable game bag and pack it out on the first trip.

I use mine all the time, finding it plenty comfy and big enough for all my goodies.

BTW, owner Angelo is a trad hunter and TG member...and rather nice fellow to deal with.

I have the outfitter with shoulder straps. Really like it.

The next pack I buy will definitely be a Bison pack. I'd have one already if I hadn't accumulated so many other ones during decades of guiding.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

Bought a "Bison Gear "Lemhi" this past spring. Looks like a great pack that will do all I want it to do. The only negative I've ever heard about these packs is price. Quality don't come cheap.

Love my Lost river as well. I packed out the whole boned out sheep (in my avatar pic)cape and horns as well in one trip. This is my go to pack 90% of the time. Mine is wool, gotta get one in lighter material so I have a hot weather pack.

I can't tell you how many critters I've packed out with my FTE...simply awesome.  Mine is made of hemp, bombproof.  No side panniers, very streamline.  Ask Angelo about the hemp, not talked about much but an excellent option!

My LR is made from bucksuede, it is very lite and cool. The fall temps in Louisiana are very warm.I will use it in co. in sept. but it is not very cold there then.

I use the first trip explorer and its a great pack, fits well with plenty of room for all I need to carry, worth the every penny, should last a long time.

Hess,  Tell us more about the hemp.  I am going to buy the FTE and was debating on the material.  Now you are throwing a wrench in there:)  Thanks

I've got a lost river and an elkhunter pack.  I really like them both, well made and durable.  I just wish they would finish updating their website so we could check out all the other new packs.

Hemp is a very strong material.  At first it feels somewhat like a soft burlap material.  But after it breaks in a bit (which doesn't take much) it is very comfortable.  I got mine in '03 and have countless hours with it on my back.  It will soak up a bit of water though but the waterproof liner has always done well.

It has a very earthy look to it and helps blend in to the urban hunting environment here in Missoula...full of hippies!

Hess,  What do you think of it in weight compared to the wool?  Thanks
