I have never seen a newer widow with colored glass on it however they used to sell bows that were painted with a black epoxy. The now called PSR was called a SBS (short black stick) if it was one of these painted ones. If I remember correctly, they painted the bows due to flaws in the wood appearance only and claimed they were sound shooters.
I have a PSR and I would not say it is loud BUT it does have a different sound to it than do other BWs I have. I assume it is due to the light mass and short limbs. It is very smooth to draw and does not have any hand shock but like I said it makes a different kind of noise.
For what it's worth, my PSR is 56" and I am drawing 56# @ 28.5".
