Which Carbon Express Shaft?

I draw about 28 1/2 inches and the poundage for my recurve at that length is 51#. I also have a fast flight string on my bow.

I like to cut my arrows to 30inches roughly. The issue is that the chart says to go with 250's, but the chart usually seems to give me shafts that are way too stiff and I wind up adding crazy amounts of weight up front. So..... I wanted to see what some other people were shooting before ordering.

Who out there is using a Carbon Express shaft for a similar set-up and what are your specs?

I use heritage 150'S with a 48# longbow with 200 gr up front at 30.5" if I remember correct.
That should get you about the same with 175 up front.

I have tried the heritages 150s, 250s & maxima 250s. I shoot 53.5 lbs and the Maxima 250s shoot like darts for me. I can make the others fly well but not quite as well as the maximas. I have them at 29.5" with 50 grain brass inserts and 225 grain tips. I am a believer in FOC so weight up front is not an issue for me.

Looks like the verdict is in bud...... a light 150 or a heavy FOC 250.... Just depends on how heavy you want your finished arrow. JMHO

I would try CE 150's,they will with a moderate weight point put you over the 500 gr.range.With carbons I let my tuning determine their final length.

buckeye-----I would think the 250's would be too stiff.
I shoot the 250's left 30" with 250 gr. total up front. I draw just under 28" with a 62# recurve.My total weight is 610 gr. arrow.

I bet the 150's would be much closer.....

Heritage 150's at 30" with a 165 gr point and shoot it in a Samick Spikeman 50# and the Super Kodiak 55# with equal accuracy.

It looks like the 150's cut to 30in will get me in the neighborhood with a 150-200 point up front. I will have to play with point weight a bit as usual. I just want 'em to fly true for good penetration. Not too worried about FOC, just good arrow flight. If it takes High FOC then so be it, but I'm not worried about it.

I shoot the the 150s cut to 29 regular insert adn 150 up front they shoot good.  I have 28 draw and 50 lb recurve

Buckeye - Sorry if this just complicates your decision. My belief is that typical results for your setup would show the Heritage 150s as too weak. Many variables affect your results, this includes, tip weight, insert weight, fletch type, wraps / cresting or not, and your release form / style... I shoot the Heritage 150s with the following setup. Old School Black Widow HS 60 Recurve 52lbs@28", with B50 Dacron String, 27.75"Draw, 28.5" Arrow Length, 50Grain Inserts, 125Grain Tips, Double Wraps w/3-5" Fletch... I am tuned really well but I'm closer to the edge of slightly weak than stiff. The wraps I have stiffen things up and if I went lighter on the tip FOC would start to enter the not very forgiving side. If I didn't have double wraps - too weak, etc.. With you adding 1-1/2 inch to your arrow length, slightly longer power stroke, & Fast Flight string I think you're on the edge. I'd recommend buying one 150 & one 250 as "tuning" shafts and bareshaft tune to determine your requirements, then go full bore... This way you can configure your length, weight, FOC, inserts, tips, etc.. I believe money well spent all things considered. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions.

I shoot 150 at 30.5" out of a Super Shrew, 53# @ 30". 175g point.

I like to go to a stiffer spined Heritige because I like a heavier arrow so load up the front end to bring the spine to where I need it . I use the 350's with a 260 tip, and a 100 gr brass insert with the setups I have listed below.

If it was me, I would say definitely the 150's. The 250's are quite stiff and would require a huge amount of weight and leaving them full length.

I was shooting the 150's out of my 49# @28" cut to 29" with 175 grains up front.
I think the 150's would be perfect for you!

I just spent about an hour yesterday at 3 rivers.  I was able to shoot both 150's and 250's to try to decide which would work best for me.  I shoot a Chek-mate hunter 2 at 52#. The 150's at 29" flew great with about 175 up front and regular insert.  Since I want more weight up front to bring the total arrow weight a little over 10gr/lb I figured I needed at least 200 to 275.  I ended up going with the 250's and I will start from full length and cut them back until they tune.  Since I draw 28" I didn't want to risk ending up with an arrow right at 28" since I start to pull through as I release. I would rather have a long arrow than one that is a little to short.

I shoot the 150s and I shoot a high performance recurve that is 54#s at my draw of 28.5"s. I cut them to 29.5"s and shoot 175 grains up front! Shoot the 150s! Shawn

I would like to end up being able to shoot a 125-150 grain head(lots of options/brands in that weight). I figured I might have to put some brass inserts in to get that done. Do you guys think I will need 50gr or 100gr inserts for the 150's at 30 in? Again, I am at about 51 lbs with fast flight string.

I shoot 150s cut 29" bop out of a longbow. Got 200 grains up front and they fly like darts. Weight is 563 grains.
