Did something I thought I would never do
« on: July 29, 2010, 07:55:00 AM »
I always thought of myself as one of these guys who would never sell/trade or get rid of a bow. This past weekend at ETAR I did it. I had a bow that for some reason I just struggled to shoot. I couldnt shoot accurately or have consistant arrow flight. Others though could shoot the same set up and the the arrows flew like darks and were very accurate. For some reason I couldn't shoot it like that. Anyways, I took this bow with me as a second bow. I ran into Angelo from Bison Gear on Saturday and he half jokingly asked if i wanted to sell it. I've been wanting one of his packs or about 2 years now. I declined to sell. Sunday morning I was struggling shooting it again so I went to breakfast. When I came out of the lodge, I ran into Angelo again and he 1/2 jokingly asked again and out of nowhere the thought hit me so I asked if he would be interested in trading a pack for the bow. I now have 2 packs (back pack & fanny pack) being made to fit my smaller Dwight Schuh frame. I am kinda sad to see the bow go, but I know it will bring joy to Angelo and I am excited to get my packs at the same time. I will definately get more use out of them.

Most of the time my arrows fly like it's dark or my eyes are closed!
Sounds like you both made a good trade.

Yep I was surprised to see Angelo with the bow on Sunday.  I guess we'll be getting that call after all.  LOL

I'm starting to pear back the herd.  I'd become sentimentally attached to a bow, because I killed this or that with it.  Finally, realized that it's better to give someone else a chance to kill this or that with 'em.

after reading some other posts about making your hunting dreams come true, well i've started to realize i've accumulated a lot of things (mostly on a whim & just as a want and not a need) that i don't really use much or have only used once or twice in many years. it got me thinking a little bit about like you say letting someone else enjoy them and using what i may get from them to make some hunting dreams come true. it is hard though b/c you do become attached! i'm still a little shocked that actually did such a thing. i kinda suprised myself.

I am begining to feel the same way about my Pete George longbow. It was made for me and I really put my heart into shooting it. I even had help from some folks who can really shoot Hill style bows. I hope someone can enjoy it as it as much as I wanted to.

I'm heading down that road myself. I have a lot of "stuff" that isn't getting that much use and may be heading somewhere else (either sell some off and/or give some to family/friends who can use it). I'm finding that the older I get...the less I really need.

i hope this same mind- set takes hold
not just in trad. archery, but in
America. the giver receives more than
expected.
you can't take it with you so do some good
now, because your "stuff" turns into somebodies
junk when you are gone.

thanks for lettin' me rant

I've been doing the same thing. I've sold some stuff that I've had laying around and a couple bows. One bow I thought I would never sell. Funny thing is I'm looking forward to trying something new out again. I have a Anneewakee Addiction recurve comming with the money from bows I sold that I wasnt shooting.   :D
