I am a Yankee in Georgia and it took me a LONG time to eat grits but they do stay with me when I have them with my eggs and biscuts. But when I came north to Grayling it is alway home fries and eggs and toast.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up, totally worn out, with bible in hand and loudly proclaim...WOW...What a Ride!!!

A "hunters breakfast" comes in many forms, grits and eggs certainly being one of them.

What CANT you eat, if it is smothered in butter and salt?

While we're at it we might as well throw in some fried up mountain oysters.  I've never had them with grits but HMMMMM, don't sound bad!!!!!

ArkyBob, I'm with you all the way on the fried up mountain oysters. I ain't too particular either sheep, calf, pig or turkey, They's all good!!!

But my question to you is why in the world would you taint good food with that southern "tofu" you call grits?..lol

Whew boy after reading 9 pages of posts, I agree with Mr LaClair, I could eat fried fish (walleye fillets) with eggs and hash  browns for breakfast easily, Having been a Transplanted Texan for the last 40 years it isnt quite southeast far enough. My southern born bride just doesnt cook them grits. (she dont cook the potatoes either)Even though her daddy was born in Alabama.  :bigsmyl:

Bring on the turkey fries Mudd

My favorite is a form of German head cheese for breakfast with eggs and toast. Made with a boiled hogs head, beef heart, beef tongue ground up and mixed with equal parts of oatmeal and then salt and pepper and allspice to taste.
Oh yum yum.

It slings like hash and tastes oh so good, (you have to acquire a taste. Especially when getting around the little hairy parts from the hogs head. It gos really good with eggs over medium.....

Quite tasty in deer camp after a morning of hunting

All the best

"Pitiful" to bash the breakfast of champions. Yall should be ashamed of yourselves and Mudd, I've lost a lot of respect for you brother.     :knothead:

As long as you don't use those instant grits you'll be good all day with that breakfast Ron.

Mike Most-"little hairy parts from the hogs head"! That's funny right there, I don't care who you are...lol

My dad used to make a "Hawg's head Souse" that wasn't fit for dogs to eat(IMHO)...lol

The man couldn't boil water without scorching it..lol

I used to hate it when mom was gone for whatever reason but most of the time it was to have another youngin. I'm the second oldest of 11 natural born siblings and the times she was gone we had some pitiful meals.

That man tried to feed us kids boiled turtle eggs you could play ping pong with..lol Oatmeal that would put any hide glue to shame and biscuits you could go to war with.

Thank God for lite bread and a little country store where with a signing of my name I could buy something fit to eat(honey buns and chocolate milk)

Anyone who'd eat the stuff you guys are bragging on would eat chocolate gravy too!..lol

God bless,Mudd

I'm with ya Ron, I got a taste for them back in the 70's, when I was picking guitar for a living in Fla. for 3 years. I went to a little cafe the first day I was there, and ordered breakfast, and the gal said, "Yall want taters, or grits?" I said both, since I didn't know what the heck they were. I still like them, and eat them with butter & salt, eggs, and biscuits. Sticks with ya.

I read this thread yesterday(still not sure about Mudd), & went home & fried up some bacon, eggs, sliced fresh tomatoes & yeller grits.(That's polenta to some folks.) Would of made real biscuits(not them cardboard tube whompum things)but, we had a storm last night & knocked out the power. Had to finish making supper on the camp stove. It was gooood with a cup of fresh coffee. wish I had some buttermilk to go with it.
God Bless

mudd i was born in alabama, raised on a farm. i'm with you on the grits,BUT not the mountain osyters. my dad made me eat one,i've never forgot it. when i heard you Tell That, i thought of a joke. you know i love the lord, i hope it isn't offensive. a guy was in church feeling convicted, he said iv'e been a terrible sinner, the preacher said tell it like it is brother, he said iv'e been out in the bars and drinking, he said tell it like it is brother, he said i've been cheating and running around, he said tell it like it is brother, he said i've even slept with a goat, the preacher said, BROTHER, I DON'T BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE TOLD THAT. mudd you shouln't have Told That, you left yourself wide open. love you brother  :nono:

OK boys I upgraded my breakfast this morning. Along with my grits n eggs, I had thick sliced bacon and biscuits. Besides the salt n pepper and butter, I put bacon grease over my grits. Sopped everything up with 3 big biscuits, now I wanna tell ya boys...., them's fixins...   :goldtooth:

That's got to be one of the funniest comebacks on the entire 10 pages.     :clapper:

'course, I know for a fact that ArkyBob won't drink buttermilk. I've tried to convert him but no such luck. He does make a mean gravy though.

Grits were always a staple in my house growing up.
Grits with butter and sugar and milk as a kid.
Grits with butter salt and pepper as I got older.
Garlic cheese grits as a side dish to fried fish and fried "okry".
and, yes, even instant grits when camping.     :dunno:

I love grits, even though they're made from hominy, which I can't stand.
