For years I didn't know what grits were. Thought maybe it was from a hog (scraped the hoofs or something).

But know I like 'em. Load them up with butter, some scrambled eggs with cheese, toast, bacon and a pot of black coffee.

That's a  " MISSISSIPPI BREAKFAST "   :goldtooth:

Here are two websites that bound to be a favorite with the Grits fans. It should be obvious that they take their grits seriously.

Roy, sorry about the play on words. I was making fun of your very acceptable vocabulary. culinary/cool n airy It was meant jokingly because I was laughing so much while reading this thread. Just got caught up in the moment.   :)

That is debatable... Please reference this thread.   :readit:

I can't believe you eat crackling bread, but not grits...put them together with milk. Kind of like a specific brand name soup - "um um good"!

After our breakfast this morning of eggs sunny side up, grits, and whole wheat toast with Indian Red peach preserves, I remarked to my wife that one of the best things about grits is that you can harvest them from among your teeth for a while afterward, little reminders of a fine meal!

Stick to your ribs breakfast aya. Was up hunting in maine near the coast, rolled outa bed sat down to breakfast. Outfiters Wife made us a traditional Maine breakfast, creamed salt cod ladeled over boiled potatoes with these huge biscuits.  :p
Still stuck to my ribs, that was 12 years ago. Grits, no thanks pass the cod.  :biglaugh:

Ron,

All this talk about food in the morning and time to make it.  If I had time after I've hit the snooze 5 times I'd make something but usually it's light enough to shoot on the field edges by the time my sorry butt gets out the door in the morning (not a morning person)!

Unless it’s in a wrapper and made of granola it ain’t going to make it!  The granola bars discussed here are usually washed down with a Diet Pepsi or if I’m feeling extra tired it’s a full-fledged Mt. Dew!

I was in the military and stationed in Virginia (they said I was a Yankee and something told me they weren’t kidding)!!!  I don’t like coffee or hot chocolate and I put ice in my milk!

I have never said or claimed to be normal or been accused of it…and according to my wife I’m far from it.       I’m not a morning person and I’m writing this at 3:40ish in the morning, this is usually why I need Mt. Dew and something fast on the way to the stand!

Thumper Dunker send me a pm and I'll send you a recipe for "Cracklin Cornbread". I know you'd love it if you like fried spam...lol

jmgcurve just so you know, it's not cracklin cornbread you put in milk(sweet or Buttermilk), milk is reserved for straight cornbread and onions..lol w/a little black pepper and salt.

One of my dads favorite dishes was great northern beans with popcorn mixed in and topped with onion.(I only witnessed this being eaten for supper time meal)

Mudd, you came by your weird taste honestly...it wasn't acquired, it was inherited....    :readit:

Yep, we got to work on Mr. Mudd's taste buds for sure,   :scared:  If we fed him some good down home Southern food he would save some of his concotions for the hounds. I think he might have a cast iron stomach.

Ron, my grandmother used to quote that to us as well. I have also heard my doctor say, " If it tastes good, spit it out, it is bad for you ! " Another, " The whiter the bread the quicker your dead. "

I don't know whether it's inherited or not but I know I did learn to love the Mackerel/salmon patties with syrup and butter or just in my oatmeal from my dad.

This has been fun!

But I thank God season opens in is just 29 more days!!!!

Have a good and Godly day!

That's right Mudd, hopefully we will be eating FRESH backstraps, eggs, fresh sliced backyard maters, and cathead biscuits on SEPT 26th. Season opens SEPT 25th.

Wonder what the post count record is for a thread on Tradgang ? Can we break 300 with this one guys ? Who would have thunk it , haha ???
