Hahahaha!! Ron if I were a Yankee(I am not!)I might be offended that you would even mention the word "grits" and Yankee in the same breath...lol

I personally think that grits and the toothbrush may very well have been invented in the same place as it doesn't take but one tooth to gag those "grits" down. The other proof I offer is that if the toothbrush had been invented anywhere else it would have been called a teethbrush..lol

You know, I'm not a Southern Boy, but I have travelled down there extensively over the years and I'll tell you that the food down in that part of our great country is REALLY hard to beat!
Man, there is nothing like a "blue plate" lunch in a little old diner, or a catfish fry at "Fish Camp". And the sweet tea... I don't know what it is, but nobody up here can make it. Fortunately for me, I was given my friend from South Carolina's Grandma's recipe and I can now make a respectable batch for myself! Oh yeah.. I like chesse grits, runny eggs and sausage gravy over biscuits for breakfast!

Essential for grits:

Big bowl of butter
1/2 tbs of salt
Mix in the grits

Sop it up with HEAVILY buttered toast.

Question: why do all you guys that just "looove" those grits have to cover them up with something -- big bowl of butter, 1/2 tbs of salt, sausage gravy, bacon bits and whatever else you can find? Ron's wife has got it right, just eat that instant oatmeal cooked in the microwave. Nothing else needed, it has a taste all its own!

Ray, that was only four varieties of tomato. (orange, yellow, tiger striped and red meaty ones)

Camocowboy, scrapple is not made with pigs' eyes. I know this because I was one of the folks removing "edibles" from pigs' heads prior to making the scrapple. I removed the eyes and arranged them attractively on a stump, whereupon a little girl asked for and gathered them all up with much glee, and ran off to play with them with her friends.

Tique, grits are a low-fat food, and a lot of folks fight that with great gusto!

Now, on with the truth!

Guess what I'm not having for breakfast this morning....lol

Actually I get nothing today. Its that old "don't eat anything past (whatever) time" so we can get a good blood sample before you see your Dr...lol

No! I'm not sick.. well at least not physically..lol It's just time for my annual fall visit to see how things are getting along visit.

But I'll take it as a good enough reason not to have to eat any grits today.. hahaha!!

The only foods that i will cull out are innards.  I just ain't sure about Mudd right now, but the fact that he likes apple pie does day something good about his taste buds.  

I love grits, but have never had the cheesy kind, hint hint.

Y'know, following this each day makes me realize that while we'ze pokin fun at po' Mudd, GRITS (and I do like em) might just be the "spaghetti" of the South.

I mean, s'getti ain't got taste for cardboard all by it'self. It's claim to fame and delight is that it's a darned find "carrier" for all sorts of fine sauces and such.

Screening through all the posts, it comes to mind that Grits mentioned are always slathered up in a bunch of other stuff so's maybe theze just like spaghetti... a good carrier for other tastes that don't get in the road of what yez eatin!??

After reading this I could not even eat bacon this morning.  So I fired up some charcoals and had a nice thick organic ribeye steak with tomatoes from my garden and egg nog with chocolate and icecream whipped in to wash it down.  Grits free diet.

Mighty good eat'in Mr. LaClair, especially when you fry up some deer sausage to go with it. Throw some biscuits in the oven, break out the homemade jelly or jam and bare down on it!
Hard to beat that kind of breakfast.

Mr. LaClair,
Just back from the hunting trip to the Delta River.  Had grits served up with fresh caught Grayling, for breakfast.  Was very tasty.
Also found mixing a package of cheese flavored grits with the bacon flavored grits makes for a fine combination.
