Old Time Picture Thread
«
on:
August 12, 2010, 08:55:00 PM »
Came across this photo while cleaning out a room over my parents house. This was taken in the the late 50's of my uncle. As kids we followed our fathers around as they shot hale bales situated out in an old field. Plenty of lost arrows because all they used were field points.
All old time pics here are welcome...this could get interesting....

That's really cool; especially how it caught the arrow and the limbs in mid-stroke.

Here's a group of Missouri bowhunters back in the day. The fellow with his hand on his cap is Earl Hoyt Jr. and the guy with the cigarette is Paul Jeffries (lifelong hunting buddies)
Proud to have called both of them friend.

Yeah David, how times change. Of course there were probably only 3 deer taken in the entire state that year.
(and that's not a joke or put down. The Missouri deer herd was tiny in the "good ole days")

I love picking apart old (and new) photos for the little details. Here's a couple of thoughts about this one.
Note everyone's fletching. All natural barred turkey fletch. Gray barr feathers were the easiest to get in those days. Solid dyed white fletch was less common and more expensive.
All were shooting static recurve self bows.... probably all made by Earl (except Paul who made his own).
Shoulder quivers were the way to go and Bean boots were pretty popular.
