prop's to the Mrs. on anti-hunter confrontation
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:50:00 AM »
OK, so my wife stopped in to the local bakery to get me a carrot cake for my birthday today.  She asked if they'd write "happy birthday Ray" on the cake she picked out.  The gal behind the counter said that the decorator was not in at the moment, and she didn't know how to do the decorative messages.  My wife asked if they had some decorative wildlife she could put on the cake and the gal behind the counter brought out a selection of stuff and said "well we just have this deer with the hunter" very snotty regarding the hunter.  My wife said that I enjoyed hunting and we enjoyed the venison.  The clerk again said "that's too bad" very snotty.  My wife then said, that's too bad for you because I'll find a cake elsewhere and walked out.  She does a lot of business there through her work and she'll be contacting the owner today to make sure they know that there staffs commentary is not appropriate.

Good for her, she did the right thing. Hopefully she planted a message in the clerks head.

Let her know we are all right there behind her.  Snotty behavior has no place in business.  She definately needs to patronize someplace else.

Let's hear it for the wives. I used to stop at a bakery on my way home (I worked nights) in Germany. I was actually pretty proud of my German speaking ability and ordered in German. The counter clerk said "I can't understand you. Please speak English". I told my wife (who is VERY German) when I got home. She went in the next day. The clerk saw the green USA plates on the car (yeah, this was a number of years ago) and when my wife started speaking to her she repeated her performance from the previous day. Poor clerk never saw it coming:-)

Good for your wife.  Antis love to spout their drivel as though they are all knowing and know what is right for everybody else. It's good to let them know they don't have the only opinion. The clerk probably has no idea where the steak she buys in the supermarket comes from.

Good!

My sister in law will not eat deer meat because you have to "kill it".  I asked her where the meat at the store come from and all she could say is "that is different".  She has a very bad attitude toward hunting.  The last deer I killed that she knew about stopped her from talking to me for about 6 months.  Folks think that their opnion is the only one that matter and everyone else should conform.  I don't ask her to hunt or eat deer meat, it is not my business, but she and others like her need to understand it is our choice to hunt and they should respect that choice.

Hopefully the owner will have some choice words for that clerk.  Maybe one of the good people out there that's jobless now can take her place.

Wow! I never thought that would happen in northern Mi. Probably our unemployment just went from 15 to 15.1. Maybe your wife should have asked her what she thought the carrots felt when she made that cake.
Good for your wife and happy birthday.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.
