Texas 2011
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:52:00 PM »
Hi Gang,

I just check my air miles, I can fly to Texas!
Now I will do something I always wanted to do: Hunt javies and hogs while home is frozen solid.

I will be able to hunt in January, Feb or March!

Can't wait!
Any input on what month to choose, and what's needed for the Lone Star state?

search of adventure.

I'll be hunting with Curtis of 7th age Bowhunting in Feb 3,4,5 & 6 - 2011. I think we only have 3 or 4 guys and there is a max of 10 hunters. You would need to get a 5-day Texas Hunting licenses. You can get more info here.

Curtis is definitely the guy to go with!
So you are already a group of Gangers for those dates? They are perfect for me  :)

Sounds amazing!   :wavey:    :archer:

What's needed for a Texas hunt?

Boot, chaps or even gators will be fine. If the weather gets warm they will come out, well that's what others have told me..

From 7th age's website:

Recommended gear:
Snacks and drinking water
Flagging tape to mark blood trails
Large trash bags/Ziploc bags
Tripods or ground blinds
Rope for game retrieval
Snake boots or chaps
Flashlights/batteries
Spotlight for tracking
Bed roll
Mosquito repellant
2 way radios
Ice chests
Tweezers and duct tape
Camera
Toilet paper
GPS and Compass
(emergency supplies)aluminum blanket, disposable
poncho, matches, fire statrer sticks, piece of
foil(for cooking in)

Any time is good but better to wait until after deer season to get better access to the ranches. Deer hunting is a high dollar item but hogs and javies not so much. Seems like things get better after the game has had a few weeks to settle down if they have been hunted hard. Our deer season ends Jan 5 if the ranch doesn't have a management permit which would go until the end of Feb.

HB3, Manny will be hunting with 7th age and as far as I know there is no deer hunting on that ranch.
