Frogging with a bow - legal in your state?
« on: August 23, 2010, 04:49:00 PM »
In NJ the use of a bow and arrow for frogs is not specifically included, therefore it is excluded.  I am attempting to get the language of the code changed to allow it.

Having spoken to the the head of the Freshwater Fisheries department she suggested that along with names of others interested in making this change I include a list of other states that allow it so she can have her biologists contact those biologists to discuss the impact, etc.

So, if your state does allow it, please let me know.  If you have a link to the regs that would be nice, but not necessary.

Thanks.
Thanks.

Mitch if I remember correctly you can bow fish for frogs. By definition bowfishing can be achieved by just fashioning a string to your arrow.    ;)

But i understand what your saying about getting it changed so it states bows.

Dave,

I called F&G and frogs may not be taken with a bow and arrow according to them.

The bowfishing code does not include frogs either.

You can legally take frogs with a bow in Kansas but You arrow must have a barbed tip and be attached to your bow with a string.

I assume any bow-fishing rig will work.

We here in the soviet state of N.J. are on the verge of getting a bear hunt, and all it took was voting out a Governor and some legislators. To be able to hunt frogs is going to be a big up hill battle and most of us probably won't still be alive by the time they make a decision, but have at it as it is the only way my great, great, grandchildren will be able to go frogging.

Seriously good luck.

It has actually been legal for several years now here in Ohio.  You just had to look real hard for it in the law book.

New York it is allowed, not sure if you need a small game license. It may require a fishing license.

Not in CT.  They're classified as "bait" and the regs specify how they may be taken.

Working on it here in Michigan!!!  Sent an e-mail to the DNRE and just got a reply. It will be up for discussion so the ball is rolling!

The only concern I got was for public safety, but if it's written to abide by bowfishing regulations then we should be alright.
Just one more step please!

Arwin-That is cool! I have quite a few spots that I can shoot frogs and there are good numbers of the. One of those wide HTM blunts would work really well on those critters.
