Double Bevel Broadhead 'S' Cut (pic)

I was out testing some some Ace Super Express broadheads today to see how they flew for me and noticed an 'S' cut was produced on every shot into my foam bale. I know this is one of the 'selling points' on single bevel broadheads, but these are double bevel. I've never noticed this when shooting two blade heads in the past - all of which had been straight edge broadheads, not convex shaped heads like the Ace is...Here's the pic of that pretty 's' cut:

i'm guessing the "S" shape is coming from the sping your feathers are provided and not from the design of the broadhead. I'm guessing this would not happen if the material where a little harder like bone....that would quickly overtake the inertia imparted by the rotation caused by the feathers.

I agree with Tater. Originally you are spinning as it hits the foam, then after you expend the spin energy the foam pushes back. A single bevel keeps going in the same direction.

oddan - I'm using left helical...5.5" parabolic 4 fletch.
You guys might be right - but its funny I've never noticed this with other two blade heads I've used in the past....
It will be interesting to see how those Ace broadheads work on deer in a few weeks...

I get the same "S" with my three blade snuffers. Except there are two of them every hole.

Yeah, there's been a lot of talk about the single bevels on here the past couple years. The way some guys talk about them, you would think that one could not ever kill a deer UNLESS they were using a single bevel. Truth is, it doesn't matter that much. Like you experienced, a good helical will get you there as well.

I know what you mean David - its been mighty hot here lately. I went out Sunday and started a couple of bait piles and it was miserably hot...
TommyBoy - you hit on something I had wondered about...These arrows were fletched with 5.5" four fletch with a tight helical, my first four fletch with the 5.5's....Maybe that's the difference...
I'm gonna pay close attention to the entrance/exit holes this year and see what happens...It won't surprise me if I find some of those pretty 'S' cuts on my deer this year from the Ace's....We'll see what happens....
