New broadhead was a bullet...Literally

I just traded for some snuffer screw in heads, and I got home decided I would heat them up, and just take the insert out, and glue them to my wood shafts.

Sounded simple till I heated them up, and with 2 pliers I couldn't get the inserts out.  So I decide I'm going to just heat them some more, and I'm glad I didn't have the screw in end pointed at anyone, because it came flying out of there like a bullet, and a loud POP went along with it.  I was startled at the first, but being a guy, I had to try it again, and the same thing happened.  So I had 4 more trys, and man it was getting fun, then they were all done, and glued onto the shafts.

I did learn something tonight though.  You should always wear safety glasses when doing any type of tinkering/figuring out.  You just never know when something is going to blow.

You may not know when it will blow but it usually ends up being fun.

How hot did you get the broadheads?  You might just take the temper right out of them.

I just heated the inserts. Yes I know they conduct the heat to the head itself, but honestly I don't know, but I will find out if the stay sharp, and don't bend during practice.

That happens when epoxy reaches a certain temperature.  The bond will break with a puff of smoke.  I used to reshaft a lot of golf clubs and that little puff was a sign the epoxy bond was broken.  If it's in a tight space, something has to move. Glue won't do that, but epoxy will.

imagine if you held the insert and not the head.a lesson for all of us.Glad you didnt get hurt.So how do they fly?

i have had the same thing happen before. lol it was crazy.

They fly awesome on wood shafts.  I put them on the arrow spinner first, and there was no wobble whatsoever, then when shot at my Rinehart cube, they all hit within a 10"circle at 20 yards, so to me there a winner.  A little light albeit, but they shoot great.  They weigh in at 100 grain heads,I would prefer a little heavier, but withthat kind of performance, why mess with it?

Same thing happened to me on some Woodsmans...it was like a fuse. He could hear it hissing and them "pop". I nearly soiled myself the first time but then did it 5 more times 'cause it was cool

I heated my snuffers and, the inserts came right out.

While removing factory inserts from some magnus 11's, two inserts flew off and landing about fifteen feet away. Take care as to which way they are pointing when applying heat.
