Just wanted to post a few photos of my Crow Creek Black Feather. I started looking at 3 piece longbows a few months back and settled on the Crow Creek as I really liked the lines of the riser, grip shape, overall flow and symmetry of the bow.
I contacted Elmer Patton about 2 months ago, had several informative conversations. He told me about a Black Feather he had on the bench, didnt really try to sell it to me, just mentioned it in passing. If I remember right he told me it had an "ok" piece of CocaBola (he didnt sound terribly excited about it), Olive Ash limbs, bamboo core etc. I told him to put my name on it, and a few weeks after that it was ready to ship.
Shipped on tuesday and I received it on thursday, pretty good service from the USPS. I had seen some 'in process" photos from Elmer so I new what to expect, but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. It really looked alot better in "person" then in the photos.
First thing you notice when you pick it up is the grip is very contoured and for me just right. If you had real small hands you would probably want to have him thin it a bit at the throat. What I really like about the contouring is that the thumb shelf ends right at the area where my index and ring finger wrap around the grip giving me a really good "pointing" index.
After shooting it 3 or 4 sessions and getting the brace tuned to 7-1/2", I can say that the bow is extremely stable having all that mass weight in the riser, fairly quiet (ive shot a few quieter, but many more that werent as quiet), and if it matters its plenty fast enough too. WIll post more on shooting etc. as I find time to spend with the bow.
I was toying with the idea of adding a quiver, but with the mass of this riser I really dont want to mess with the balance, as for me it is perfect as is.
Elmer was great to deal with and talk to, and I will be buying more bows from him.
Here are a few quick photos, light wasnt real good, but you will get the general idea of the looks/flow of the bow.
