BROADHEAD DECISION
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:40:00 AM »
I shoot a GM II 40lbs @ 28".  Easton 2013s cut at 30".  Good bareshaft flight with 125gr field pts. Approx. 450 grs.  Fletching is 5" R wing helical.
I would appreciate any BH suggestions/reccommendations.

I assume you are drawing 28". I would definitely use a 2 blade cut on contact BH at that draw weight and light of an arrow.

Eclipse has a 125, STOS might have something in that range, Zwickey has a 135 you could try. There are others, but because I shoot much heavier heads i don't know if they have 125 grain. If you wanted to use 3-blafde and added some weight to your arrow I would then consider snuffers, Wensel Woodsman/VPAs, also more options here.

These are just the ones that first popped into my head.

BTW I am biased to heavy arrows with heavy 2 blade tips.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

You can try a 2 blade , I shoot about the same #'s and use a 3 blde. 125gr. snuffer. If its sharp and you put it where it belongs, not a problem with either one.

Check out the Ace Standard 2 blade head. Very tough. Easily sharpened. Been around a long time. Comes in a variety of weights.

I shot 3 deer 2 yrs. ago with a   40lb GameMaster II, 2 with Snuffer 125gr and one with a Stinger with the bleeder blade 125 gr. all 3 were pass thrus all went less than 50 yds. but the Stinger left a little better bloodtrail (might have been the arrow placement). I'm going with Stingers this year. All flew very well. Axis arrow 500  29 1/2" 100gr. brass inserts 125gr. heads. 12grs. per lb.

Loyd,

Shoot me your address, I've got two three packs of Steel Force 125 grain screw-in 2-blades I'll send your way.  Should get you on your way... hunting season is right around the corner!

You can change heads down the road if you like, the Magnus Stinger is a good choice, the Silver Flame XL is another.

I shoot 40-42 lb and a 160-170 gr STOS 2 blade.
Arrows weigh about 450-475 gr.
