My (almost) primitive hunting gear
« on: August 31, 2010, 11:52:00 PM »
Since Kris(Stik-N-String)showed off his primitive hunting set up I though I'd post mine;
  The bow is a 60"t/t osage static recurve that bends through the handle and has choke cherry bark backing, 55#@26". My main arrows for this bow are hill cane made by ArtB(from my cane) and fletched and hafted by me(except for the Cherokee two fletch by Art). Two with WW, one has a Zwicky Eskimo and one with stone(two fletch). The other primitive arrows are sourwood shoot arrows with stone and home made trade points. Most of the arrows weigh between 650gr and 700gr and all shoot very well from this little bow.

  These are the sourwood arrows with stone(made by friends) and trades(made by me). All fletching is sinew wrapped forward and aft and one arrow has a tangential 3 fletch using 3 small full length goose feathers. Points are hafted with pitch glue, wrapped with sinew and sealed with pitch varnish.

  The arrows with red barred feathers are full tapered ash arrows for another primitive yew bow.

Tried last year with a Osage self bow and missed a doe and a Jake turkey. Good luck and shoot straight.

All that stuff is no good for NC or Ga. hunting.  It must only be used in Va.  You can send it to me this week.    :pray:

Awesome set up and a whole lot of mojo there Pat.  You are the man.

 I got to find me some of that backing. It's sharp for sure.

Real nice Pat! Is that your avatar bow?

I'll be hunting with olde "Flip-Flop" this season.

Wonder how many other trade bows will be out hunting?

Thanks everyone. Joe, this is a different bow than the one in my avatar. That one has a stiff handle and rattle snake h=backing and this one bends through the handle and has the chore cherry backing. Bent the recurves on the same form and both are the same length.  Good luck with Flip Flop. She's a killer!  I know of one trade bow that won't be hunted with this year! d:^(
  The choke cherry backing is very cool stuff and will add some zip to a bow. Kris, let me check. I might have enough cherry bark for another bow and you are welcomed to it.

Bjorn, anything that steps in front of me. A big fat floppy eared doe will suit me just fine but I will shoot a buck if I have to!   d;^)

Thanks for the offer on the backking Pat. I would be glad to trade you something for it.
