Hunting deer in town

I have a reporter asking me about hunting deer in municipalities where they have become a pest. Can anyone give me the name of cities and towns where this has worked?

North Carolina started a Urban Deer Hunt a few years ago. I believe it is up to the community as to whether they will allow it or not. I've not heard any reports about who has participated.

in NJ, most towns and counties with high deer and people populations have some type of "urban" hunts.  hunts are run by state fish and game, county parks divisions, township hunts, or bowhunter organization hunts (like united bowhunters of NJ).  all hunts have worked great and almost all are ongoing for years now to keep populations in check.  they have become very accepted and succesful in a state where hunting is looked down upon by the general puplic.

Fox Chapel, PA has had an archery hunt program for many years.  I'm not sure of the current status or success levels but you may want to look into it.  I know there was success early and it has been happening for a good while.

In the Twin Cities area in Minnesota, the    Metro Bowhunters Resource Base  has been at this for fifteen years.  They have about 500 hunters enrolled according to their web site.

The Quad cities (Iowa side) has had urban hunts for a few years.  I know a guy that participated. It sounded like a commercial endeavor though.  From what I recall some outfit got contracted by the city to take out a certian number of deer in designated areas.  The compny recruited locals who had to pass an archery marksman test before hunting.  I recall they took out a bunch around golf courses and parks.
Since then I believe they have started regular in town seasons where you have to attend special safety classes first.
