Great story Bill.  Awesome job!

As a footnote to this story and the whole week, actually is that when I got back to Eldon's on the first night he already had two bears in the cooler. Both were father/son packages that Eldon offers. Dad buys a hunt....son hunts free. I only have one picture to share at this point but during the week 3 boys, all sophomores in High School, took bears. This is Eric Tomasello and his huge bear. Although it is not a bow kill I asked Eric when he was going to try with a bow. He said he had a longbow at home that he shoots and next year he's bringing it with him. This is Eric's second bear with Eldon and later in the week his dad took his first.

Eric and his proud dad, Jim.

When we get the other pics we will post them on the Hunter's Point web site.

Way to go Bill!  It's great to actually take the specific animal you're hunting, congrats!

Margly: I have a friend in Switzeralnd, Tom Gyger, who came over four years ago for a hunt. He's been back now for his fourth season. He told me it is not just the hunt itself but the whole atmosphere, it is almost like the whole town of Portage gets behind the hunt and everyone is made to feel at home. Plus, you get to meet so many different kinds of people. I would encourage you to come on over...you won't regret it and will probably do it more than once. As much as Laura and I like to hunt we were unable to make it to the first week's hunt 3 years ago. So, we took a 3 day "vacation" just to go up and visit with everyone that we knew. Seriously, think about it...would love to meet a fellow Norweigian...not too  many of us here in NH.

One of the nice things about Eldon's hunts is that you get to meet so many great people and sometimes get them to take the plunge with trad gear. Here is a pic of a really beautiful bear shot by Don Gentile of NJ. Although not a bow kill (I hope the mods don't delete it as Don may have a bow in his hands next year) Don and I had several talks about his reluctance to use his recurve. He sent me this pic and a video link (check the website in a few days) and  really nice email......

Bill and Laura

I met you guys at Eldon's last week.  I videoed my hunt and spoke to you about it.  My phone died the other day (operator error) and I lost your email adress.  Here's the email I sent some friends and link to the video if you'd like to use it on the website.  I came home and immediately started shooting my recurve again.  Bill, your tips are helping.  I've seen a dramatic rise in consistency in a very short period of time and my fingers hurt like Hell from shooting so much.  Thank you again.

Here's Don and his bear....next year with a recurve?????
