No spots probably makes it very difficult to survive the first few weeks in an area with lots of predators.  Very cool!

Shot a buck in West Texas many years ago that was almost that dark. Cool looking deer.

The Wensels were hunting a black buck for the last 4 years.  He was killed last November by another hunter.

Pics as a year and a half old:

 

 

And the same buck last fall as a four and a half year old finally matured and ready to harvest.  

 

Gene was really, really taken by this buck.  He's done a lot of research and melanistic bucks are very, very rare.
