At what draw weight do you need to go to 14 strands with DF97?

You can do 12 up to about 55-60 in my opinion. I shoot 14 on my bows from 48-53@28 with no ill effects. D97 is great stuff.

I think 12 strands would be strong enough for most any bow.  You may have trouble with creep though, as D97 has no Vectran.

With that material, I think a good string would be .019 Halo over the number of strands it takes to get good nock fit.

That's just my opinion.  Lots of people shoot 10 strand D97 strings.  Few people agree on what makes the best bow.  Strings are the same way.

Thanks guys!  I recently bought some d97 material and did'nt know for sure how many strands I needed to use.  My heaviest bow is 54# so looks like I should be fine with 12 strands.

Love D97! I use 12 strand at 60# and never had a problem as long as arrow weight was properly matched to bow poundage. I do have the loops padded with B50. Helps protect the tips and reduce noise.

It's a matter of personal preferance.  I have a 14 strand on my longbow (pulling 66#), and a 10 strand on my selfbow (also pulling around 66#).  Loops are padded to 18 strands.

Dynaflight '97 is approximately 125# test per strand, and has little stretch/creep.  A lower strand count will stretch a little more, especially on a heavier bow, but it generally settles in quick.

I shoot 12 starnd D97 on all my bows. I used to shoot it on my bows up to 90#s and have shot 10 strand on 70# bows no problem. Shawn

12 strands of D97 is strong enough for up to a 100# bow.I shoot 12 strands on all my bows also from 50# to 83#.12 strands with .024 halo serving gives me the same nock fit for all my arrows.

Ive shot as little as 8 strands on a 60# bow but you have to use a thicker serving to make up for really thin string, shoot 12 on all my bows up to 66#.

Thanks a lot!  Looks like a 12 strand string is plenty on any of my bows.  I'm going to experiment a little and see what I like best.  I twisted a 12 strand for my 41# ACS-CX and padded the loops to 18 strands.  It seems to shoot good and stretched or creeped almost none so far.

I have my first D97 string on my longbow now. I got it from Chad at Checkmate bows(sponser).

First, I noticed it has quite a different sound. Not sure how many strands it is but it fits my GT nocks a lot better than my dacron strings.

I put some hush puppies on it and it seems pretty quiet. I'm not sure if it is quieter or if it is just a different tone. I don't think it's as quiet as the dacron. I'm still playing with the brace height so that jury is still out.

The craftsmanship in this string is flawless! I am very pleased with it. If your looking for a custom string take a look at what Chad has to offer. He has several types of string material.
