Finger tabs...... which to look at?
« on: September 10, 2010, 04:06:00 PM »
I was looking trought 3rivers archery at he finger tabs.  When I first started shooting compounds I used a three finger tab, never got used to gloves.

What are some good tabs?  Is the calf hair worth the slight extra price?

The one that really caught my eye was the Black Widow tab.

For the record, I have large hands!  I shoot (or used to) One over and two under, so I'll be going that route again.

Thanks guys!  Yall are great!

I have big hands as well, go with a large regardless of the style. I have tried 3 or 4 different tabs and settled on the Black Widow tab because its rigid behind the fingers. It felt the best to me and almost forces my hand and elbow to go where its supposed to.

I bought the Fred Eichler on and like it. I prefer cordavan to calf hair.

I use the cheap tab with the finger spacer. Leather no calf hair because thats what I had when my calf hair wore out. Never tried a more pricey one. When mine wears out I'll probably get another calf hair. Just my 2 cents.

I shoot split finger; 1 over, 2 under and my preferred tab is a Bateman cordovan tab. I "retired" my last Bateman tab since it finally wore out after 10 years of hard use. In the below link is the Bateman tab I use.

Bateman all the way unless I'm having a day that requires the use of my "palm tab".

Kustom King sells a cordovan leather tab with a spacer, has really helped my shooting once I got it broke in. Heres a link.

Been shooting Kanpinch KP300's (calfhair)since '84. Tried others off and on over the years, prefer KP.

I use and recommend the Saunders Pak Tab. It requires NO breaking in and can be set up many different ways. Here is a lkink:

Cavalier elite cordovan, although I replace the split leather with a solid piece for 3 fingers under.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

E.W.Bateman Cordovan just like the one Night Wing posted a link to.

Smooooth release, and yes they last that long.

Works great in cold weather as well, just slip over light Camo skins gloves and then in one of the mittens that fold back.

I like cordovan a lot, but the Bateman I got at 3rivers had the elastic strap.  That thing would fly off my hand all the time. I would get the one with the leather finger hole on it.

The Cavalier elite cordovan is the best release I have tried yet.  The leather and backer thickness was ideal for me.  However, I didn't like the metal plate.  The way I anchor it would scuff my cheek.

The Fred Eichler tab looks great. Anyone know how thick it is? I would love to get a pic of a side view of the layers and maybe have someone mic it to see how thick it is overall.

The Black widow calf hair is excellent, but the hair comes off them way to fast for me.  The supper leather is nice, but leather doesn't last like cordovan, and it is kind of on the thick side.  I hear they used to have a cordovan.  I can't find one, but I bet it was a great tab.

I am shooting and loving the pack tab.  Very adjustable to your personal needs.

The Bateman TCD is the same one that 3RA sells, #5088.  Cheaper at 3RA.  It's the one that I use, too.  It took a bit to get used to the elastic strap, but it works better for me than the regular style with the finger hole in the leather.  For hunting, I wear it over a glove like Doug.  Works great.
