I saw the bow Tue.
A whole lot prettier in your hand.
Hard to explain but the grain looks like it is deep down into the glass.
The riser has a nice feel to it also.
Not sure but I think he could be talked out of it.

I always thought using American Chessnut from recycled boards would be cool. Have saw a few craft items made from it.

Chuck,

I've got a couple of Kolometz Special's that I've heard were all local woods as well.  Those all "local" bows are pretty special and very interesting looking.  There's a lot of character in some of the grain.

I love the idea of using only home grown wood. Time to keep the money at home, and there is no loss in beauty and performance.

Great job.

I agree Phil, some woods are unique to a certain area and can ad a bit of romance and meaning to a true custom build.
Mike, That is kind of why I went this route, keep stuff at home. The American woods have some nice looks and performance. Thanks for the post guy's

Chuck, I dont know of a supply personally but did a search and came up with several. The items I saw were in a craft shop in NC. turned bowls and such. Its hard to imagine but Chestnut was once a predominate tree in eastern forest, it could grow to 10 ft around and over 100 ft tall.Taking a bow with Chestnut wood to the forest would surley have some major mojo.
