Buffalo bow on order!
« on: September 14, 2010, 01:29:00 PM »
That's official, I am on the waiting list for a second buffalo bow!

I did order another one to have a takedown bow for traveling. That's the only missing feature of my buffalo bow. But again, what's wrong with having a new bow on order?  :)  :)  :)

I need dark veneer ideas for the back of the bow.
So show me your dark veneers!

Ranger, do you have pics of your veneers? Steelhead Ziricote can be a good idea too!

What other woods are you planning to use?

Chop, riser will be made of coco and osage, that's a given.
Now for the veneers, I want to go fancy with a wood on the darker side.

That's why I hesitate on ziricote, bacote or waterfall bubinga.

Or may be I'll go with coco veneers like the one I have now!

Decisions decisions!   :)    :)    :)

I've seen some Waterfall Bubinga veneers on bows that were stunning. Lots of grain and very dark too.
F-Manny, I knew it wouldn't be long till you'd be on Jim's list for a 2pc. I'm thinking about a 2pc Thunder Child as soon as I catch-up on a few things.

Juniper or easter red cedar veneers are pretty dark if it is all red wood.  I am pondering a riser material to go with juniper veneers some time soon.

I have seen some stunning myrtles lately and they vary greatly in color, grain and figure. I bet there is something out there that would look fantastic. May not be as dark as some of the ohers.

also what about macassar ebony?

F-Manny

I had Jim put gabon ebony on my limbs (split w/ zebra wood).  That should be good and dark for ya.

Chopx,I agree and really think my next limbs would be some of the stunning myrtles I,ve seen.I'm sure Jim could dig up some great looking wood.
Just recieved my new Thunderchild and seriously pondering a Buffalo bow.I think the wait and anticipation would kill me!LOL.

Friends, lots of good ideas right there!

Chop, although very stunning (dalmatian or regular) I don't really like macassar ebony.

I'll have to talk to BigJim, and rely on his avise.
So right now the riser will be coco with osage accents, and I'm partial to bacote veneers

F-Manny, Bacote is an excellent choice! I like it a lot.

Steve, got a call from today on a new bow that will be shipping to me with what the bowyer referred to as SUPERB Myrtle. I let him pick the riser material.Hopefully picks will be up in a couple weeks.
