I seen this in the northwest part, near Clarksville.  This weekend Im going to go to my farm in Gasconade CO.  I small field (7 acres) had 9 differant scrapes on it a week ago, so it should be gettin ready to.   Like you said any day.  With the weather changing for the better starting Thursday should really see deer moving.    :D

Gasconade Co. is right below where I'm hunting. Just outside Montgomery City, but I live in Park Hills. My brother still lives in Montgomery City and this is his father in law's place we are leasing this year. This particular area has a reputation for producing some really big bucks in the past......I just hope that legacy holds out.

Good Luck this weekend!

Have gone out last three mornings and had quite a few sightings and close encounters. Still windy but in a good direction for this stand. Several non-legal bucks running around. Saw one that went out a couple of inches past his ears and was about one and a half times as tall as his ears but was only a six point (three to a side ). He was definatly mature. Big sway belly and back, grey face. Only ten to fifteen feet away, but we have the four point rule. Saw one leagal buck but he kept stopping in the wrong places. Maybe today is the day. Seeing very few does. I think I am pushing them out as I go in befor light. Leaving to try again and watch another of Gods beautiful sunrises.  Jim Pyles

Sighting #13 was almost lucky thirteen for me. I heard a deer jump the fence and saw a flash of movement, when he came out from behind a cedar tree all I could see were HORNS and my first thought was man that is a little bodied deer. Then I was focused on picking a spot, about that time he saw me and trotted off to the north. I guess that was my trick now I am ready for my treat.  :)

Just got back from up North Mo. and finally had an eventful weekend. Saw a definite shooter Friday evening about 30 min. before dark. The big dude slipped around me about 150 yards out across a cut bean field. Something spooked him, but it wasn't me and I got a pretty good look at him, but don't have a point count. He was wide and heavy, at least a big 8 probably a 10 or better, but I can't be sure.

Saw 5 does and 2 bucks Saturday eve. all from about 100 yards away as I hunted in an observation blind watching a funnel. Small fork horn and a med. sized 8pt.
Sunday morning shot at another coyote, the bugger slipped in on me at about 30 yards before I knew he was there and he busted me. I came to full draw and whistled him to stop at 25ish and cut hair off his back.......Dang it!

Lastly Sunday evening saw a buck bumping 3 does along with the poke and lick method.....his nose must have been cold cause the does didn't much care for it.  :p

Couldn't tell how big he was, forgot my binos in the truck and they were all the way in the creek bottom below my stand.....lots of yards of brush between us.

This morning was a bust......nada....came home about 2:30pm......gonna try it here around the house for a few days and let the property up north cool down a bit and try to hit it again this coming weekend. The rut is starting to trickle in so this weekend should be even more action.....can't wait!  :jumper:

Awesome Job Scott!!!      :banghead:

I'm seeing deer, but they are always just out of reach....maybe it will happen this weekend?
We are heading back up to Montgomery on Friday, so hopefully I'll have a pic of my own to post.

Hey Scott, have you got anymore pics?
I'd like to see more if you gottem.

Hunted on the ground yesterday evening after work. Stepped into the timber south of the house and donned the ghillie. The high winds helped cover the noise as I snuck in. 30min before dark I saw a buck below the pond dam making a scrape! Hit the grunt tube and here he came... All bulled up with his hackle raised, ears pinned back!! He made another scrape 15 yds from me, but was on the wrong side of the tree. He did take a step closer, but stayed quartered to. Nice 9 point, 4x5!!!  Going back in there again today after work!! Rattlin horns in hand!!!

That's awesome, go get after him while he's aggresive and hot! It's been my experience that when you call a buck in at a certain area, he is probably guarding it and very intolerable to outsiders....which makes them easier to call in multiple times. I sure hope you get him.
Good Luck!

Rattled up a monster 10 pointer sunday night, couldn't get a shot at him. Didn't spook him so maybe I could get another chance at him later on. Seen him 2 times while walking out after dark in a near by field. Left the stand and my buddy hunted it Monday after work he said he came with in 70 yrds of him chasing some does. Went out yesterday and there was 6 trucks parked right where he was crossing the road. Guy in my stand needing educated on the legality of ownership. For 3 weeks me and my buddy have been the only people hunting with in a mile of this place, someone must have caught him in the road or field. The joys of public land hunting. Cant wait to leave next week for western MO, will have 5 days bow hunting with only a few locals that always come by to talk and get some of our famous gourmet camp food

I had an incredible hunt this morning, no shots taken but I was covered up in deer.  Had an 8 pt at 7 yards but he never presented a shot.   :help:

Chris,

Here is the full story and a few more pics.

This is the first deer I have had in shooting distance/position in 2 years. I was in the process of trying to talk myself into quitting a few minutes early. Hang with it, you never know "when the worm will turn."

Saw three different bucks this morning, one was a button buck which I promptly shot over his back. Didn't phase him very much as he just wandered off. For the year I have seen 10 bucks, 8 does and one that it was to dark to identify.

This Friday had a lot of activity in my neck of the woods.  I counted 18 deer and two came within 15 feet of me as they stopped to take a breather.  They were being chased by a buck.  This fellow here was taken and I had a very good morning.  I harvested him with my HH bow and a HH broadhead that was given to me by Tim of Breaveheart Archery to try out.  Thanks again Tim.
