Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed the story.

George:
The bear was trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey and I didn't have a custom cargo carrier like some folks I know....

Kip:
Having the boys with us made it a special day for sure!

Nice job Paul. Thanks for sharing the story and pics. Where you chasing bears in VT?

Way to go Paul! I think you shoulda drug the story out like you drug out the bear- more slowly! Great animal.

Very very nice bear Paul and congratulations! Did you kill it with that nifty takedown longbow you built?

Cogratulations on a great bear Paul!  Very nice.. Great story and I am glad to hear the hunt really came together for you.  Sounds like the big one will have to wait one more year and he is sure to be a monster!  Hopefully Manitoba and Vermont will treat you just as well.  Good luck!

VTer:
Lunenburg area

Marty:
Thought about it but I'm hunting 3 different states at the moment and not home much.
Also there may be another chapter to this story. I've some freinds,a father/son team, that have been hunting with me that have yet to see a bear although the baits are getting hammered. I'm hoping that, like some Floridian I know, they can pull it off at the last moment

 Hey Bill!
Yes It's the bow I had in Quebec this year.I've taken quite a liking to her.

Jay:
That sharpening system is the cat's a@@. Washed the broadhead off and a quick pass on the wheel and it's shaving hair. Can't thank you enough bro!! Good hunting!

Returned to Manitoba last week, where I hunted last spring, with two good friends for some of the best cooking to be found in any bear camp.

and if we could pry ourselves away from the table perhaps a bit of bear hunting....

We would be hunting ag fields as there is no baiting in the park in the fall.
First night on stand the bugs, that had not been an issue in the spring, where out in force. Having no thermacell or bug net made the bugs happy.
At 6 pm a nice 250# +/- black bear came in and hung around for ten minutes or so. Captured some good video. If he had been a color bear my hunt may have been over early.
With 30 minutes of hunting time left the bugs had taken the day. I packed up and lowered my bow to the ground...

Awesome, wish I had gotten my bear tag for this year, as I had one come in behind me while in my blind the other morning.

Too bad you can't use bait, here...

That banana cream pie would SURELY pull in a trophy!

Sounds like you are having a fine season.  Here's to finding a special color phase bear.

Don't know about that pie bringing in a trophy Darryl but it got me back for a return trip
Hope your fall season goes well.

..A last look around before climbing down. There was a black colored, brown snouted bear on the same trail as before.I raised the bow back up not nocking an arrow as I assumed it was the bear from earlier. The bear could see the bow going up but due to the cover could not see where it went.I was hoping to spook the bear off without giving my postition away.Bear stopped and sat down for a few minutes then took the same path to the bait as before. Not really paying any attention to the bear I'm standing there squashing bugs as quietly as possible hoping he won't be there long. After what seemed like an hour but was probably only a few minutes another bear appeared under my tree.
Wait a minute! That looks like the bear from earlier?
I look back at the bear at the bait

OH MY GOD!!!

This bear is sitting down behind the upright barrel scooping out of the hole in the top.

My primary goal for this hunt was a color phase bear of which there are many in the area but also any black over 400#
This bear easily surpassed that..
Now how to nock an arrow without the bear at the base of my tree spooking. Well I almost made it. The bear spooked, spooking the larger bear but neither ran far. As the big bear came back to the bait he gave me a good appreciation for how large he was.He once again sat down behind the barrel and fed. The smaller bear inched closer to 20 feet from the larger bear. The big bear came around from behind the barrel and turned broadside.....
