Leather workers, Zebra pelt:

I have a couple of pieces of Zebra, I would like to use it for a rest and on the riser of my LB. What I need to know is how to treat the skin so it will bend more readily to curve up the riser. I was also told to use Barge cement for this purpose.
Thanks

Is the pelt tanned or just rawhide? Big difference. If tanned I see no problem. If rawhide I think you need to tan it first. Maybe soak it in borax solution and work it over a board until dry and soft. I'm guessing you don't want to chew it until soft like the Indian women.

i just put some Zebra hide on my riser a few weeks ago, and i am AMAZED at how well it is holding up...my hide came from the neck area, and the hide was OLD...i used contact cement...after hundreds of arrows, it looks like i just put it on...i think you'll be pleased...

Your Chicken from McDonald's, Tyson Foods, or Perdue Farms spent most of it's life stuffed in a cage with three or four others, occupying a space about the size of a book page...None for me, thanks...
