Biggest deer I've ever killed: Elkhart County, Indiana -- 265#'s field dressed on Kingsbury WMA State Scales. The two biggest racked deer I never shot at, also in Elkhart County, IN.

I probably won't hunt opening weekend unless it's Saturday or Sunday afternoon on Parke County.

I'm pretty sure all the big deer in Indiana have been killed out but we got lots of 100# does and 50# fawns to kill.  You non-residents should pony up the $150 tag price for the 4 pointers and fawns we have.  Word is we have too many deer and not enough money.

I still have not decided if I will be in Parke County, IN or in IL on the opener! It depends on the forecast and wind direction which I will choose.

About those small Hoosier deer. I can tell you this, if a 130 PY walks by me in Indiana, there's no way I'll shoot it.

I don't mind the $150 to IDNR at all. I do wish I could get the 1st Doe tag for less than $150 though. I'd be happy to kill a couple of does and the place I hunt has lots of them, but spending $300 for two tags is a bunch and I can't burn the either sex tag (statewide archery) on a doe after traveling 240 miles one way.

I worked for IDNR for 12 years. My last position was as Manager of Patoka lake 1985-1989. I laid out and had the archery range constructed when I was at Patoka.

Thanks bowwild.  That 130 is the last one we have.  We need to let 'em walk so we can recall what one looks like.  Shoot one of the millions of 1 year old 4 points we have.  Most of our 2 year olds are 4 points for that matter.  Bad genetics and all.  Plus all the oaks have died off from this drought.  Crops have failed too.  Probably be 10 years before we can count on seeing much more than does and fawns around.  Forgot to mention the EHD outbreak we're having and have had for the past 3 years.
