Elevated rest noise.
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:27:00 AM »
I am fooling around with a Bear weatherrest on a bow and I can hear a noticable whistle as a carbon arrow is drawn across the rest. Does anybody treat their rest with anything to stop the noise? I was going to try an Armor All but I'm not sure how often you would need to reapply.  Thanks,  Greg

Cover it with Moleskin....lots of folks cover the rest, and a portion of the sight window around the rest....like a 2"x2" area.

Are you guys wrapping moleskin around the finger or just the side plate?

Cover the entire rest.....top and both sides of the arm. I like to have it on the sight window as well, in case you bang an arrow against it.

I borrowed a Schafer Silvertip from Dave and Beth before ordering one. It was Dave's personal LH bow. It had a Bear weather rest that was completely covered over with moleskin.  It was very quiet. I loved the rest so much I'm having my Schafer drilled for a plunger-style springy.

I cut a small strip that will just wrap around the arm of the rest. Then I use a larger piece on the side plate/plunger.

I have the same problem with my Cavalier T-300, even though the support arm is teflon covered.  I would think that covering the arm would impede it's movement when the arrow passes over it.  Has anyone had experience silencing this rest?
