quick bh/adapter question
« on: September 24, 2010, 06:54:00 PM »
I ordered some stos heads from 3rivers, glue on. Also ordered 5/16th long adapter to screw into carbons.

Question, should the adapters be undersized that much? Mine have a lot of play and they go a long way into the bh ferrule. Did I order the wrong adapter? I have not glued any yet, just looked a little off to me.

3rivers closed till monday, so no help there.

thx

As long as the insert mates up to the back of the adapter without putting any pressure on the BH it should be fine.

You could also use a dremel or file to remove the overhang if it is slight.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

the over hang is from the bh hanging over the adapter. maybe 1/8th".

adapters seem like they should be of a larger diameter. but I've never used them before.

The ferrule is made for 11/32 but the 5/16 should work on most carbons.   Try screwing an adapter into your shaft then fitting the BH over it.  Does the adapter bottom out into the BH, or does it hit the shaft first, causing a loose fit?

I shoot the 145 grain STOS broadhead and since the ferrule on the STOS is 11/32", I bought 11/32" broadhead adapters and they fit together perfectly.

When you use an 11/32" broadhead, get an 11/32" adapter. If you need an INSERT for a 5/16" shaft, get a 5/16" insert. You got the wrong size adapters.
