Singing Broadheads
« on: January 09, 2007, 09:05:00 PM »
Does anyone else have problems with vented broadheads singing in flight? How big of a problem do you think it is?Is it just 3 blades or do all of them do it? Are there any that don't?

Thanks,
Robert

Lightly round off the inside of the vented opening. That usualy helps.

If they make a high pitched noise, I'd never hear it anyway. The deer didn't seem to notice either.  :archer:

I have never had the noise a broadhead makes scare game....I have just caled it whispering or whistling death.

My snuffers have a "death hiss", doesn't seem to bother the game.

Oh for pete's sake!  I thought we had a new singing group here representing the TradGang.  It does sound like a good name for a back-up group for Mark Baker 8^).

I think it actually makes them hold still.
If it's in your way, move it.

I think I read one time that if your Broadhead dose Sing, then it's not mounted true....And that makes it sing.
Don't quote me, I may be wrong, I do vagely remember being wrong once...."maybe"

The only ones that I've had problems with were the Magnus 4 blades, caused by the bleeder slits. Painting over the slits with nail polish solved the problem, but I went with a different head.

I've heard Bananna fletching make a whole lot more noise than any broadhead I've ever shot.

Seriously though I use vented heads and never heard them sing,I used to shoot 'nannas they made some noise like wildman said but I don't think the deer mind the sound could even freeze them.

are arrows are not flying faster then the speed of sound....the will hear the thud from your bow coming to brace before they hear the broadhead and anyway i like that noise

good shooting

Some heads are actually quite noisy...the Patriot vented two-blade comes to mind.  A piece of tape over the vents helps but I'd avoid whistling arrows (from either vented heads or big feathers) if possible when hunting spooky critters.

I tried the Patriot once and it earned itself the inofficial title to be the "best" whistle point - which was not primary designed to be one ... at least I suppose that to be the case.

I can't contribute datas on how it may effect a hunting shot though. But I would definately not want to use anything like that for such purpose. A hisss - okay - but not an orchestra!

I've shot Snuffers and they do hisss - same do Delta Sniper - but I would consider both to be "harmless". SilverFlames are very quiet - at my arrows speed at least, but do make some sound.
Solid blades I shot, like Grizzly, Wolverine and Ribteks, don't make any sound I can hear.
