Thanks for the responses guys, I'll keep that knowledge about bears in the front of my mind when we go again this Saturday, and I'll be a little more relaxed, but just a little.

If you want to know more about North Jersey Bears.....

Talk to Joe Skipp, or one of the "Jersey Boys" here on the "gang".

The bears in North Jersey have absolutely NO fear of man,(due to them not being hunted) and DO NOT give ground!!! The boys have had many "hair raising" encounters over the years!!!!!  :scared:

All of the guys carry bear spray with them...
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Ron & anyone else interested. It is legal to carry a firearm during archery season. The only week it is not legal is during muzzle loader season. This is straight from the ECO officer in my area. The reason it is legal is because of early bear season is still open with firearms. You can carry a gun in case you decide you want to shoot a bear with a gun even though you are bow hunting. I carry mine almost every time out. The night I shot my bear with my longbow I had my rifle with me just in case. The regs are not really clear on this fact and I half think that is on purpose. The ECO who told me it was legal also gave me his card & told me to call him if anyone ever tries to hassle me about it. Legally early bear ends the day before muzzle loader which means pistols & rifles are not legal that week. Good luck out there guys.

Your CO is wrong.....If your bowhunting you CAN NOT carry a firearm of any kind. I have been a Bow -ED instructor for 15 years. The only way you can carry is if your a law enforcement officer, such as an off duty cop who happens to be bowhunting.

Legally I was told by a co that you can't hunt with a person if he has a gun and you have a bow and either could help the other in pursuit of their intended quarry....now maybe things have changed. But I find that hard to fathom in our great state of New York. I hope your right.

You can't carry a firearm (even a hand gun with a permit) while archery hunting in NY.

Weather not looking good till Thursday Afternoon, may have to grab a few hours on the mountain when ever I can. Even a little while in the woods can be productive sometimes.

Im a peaceful man, I dont usually pack heat anyway but its an interesting question that Ill have to research.Hunted Moose River Plains and Indian Lake yesterday.Although it beautiful country we saw nothing, nothing, nothing  was seen by Cuz or me. Saw a mama with 2 tiny fawns near the camps and a big old girl on the drive out but the woods up there were devoid of last years sign.No tracks, rubs, poopy or anything else.Come on Southern zone.

Ken
How crowded was Happy valley last weekend?
I have not been there in several years and even when people were there it was easy to find another spot. Havent scouted it out in some time.
