Hah!
I could hear the bull closing the distance and knew he would pop out around the bushes in a few more seconds. I had to turn my back to him so I could shoot off my left side. I heard the burp that was the last one I'd hear before I saw him and nocked an arrow ON MY SWAMP ROOTER RECURVE MADE BY JOEY BUCHANAN. As soon as I placed my fingers on the string, I saw him. JEEZUS! those things are BIG! I couldn't have been any more surprised if a zebra had walked out!
He stopped short about 20 yards and was looking for his "cow". Paul took the hint and started moving up thru the bush cracking sticks and limbs. About this time, I could see the bull got a whiff of the cow pee we had sprayed around, between that and the visual, he started walking. Head rocking and a burp with each step.He stopped again perfectly broadside, 12 yards, but there were a few leaves in the way. I knew they wouldn't hinder the shot and I remember pulling an inch or two past my normal anchor hoping to at least sink in up to the feathers. There was no doubt that the SWAMP ROOTER RECURVE MADE BY JOEY BUCHANAN, would do the job. The arrow zipped thru him so fast, the guide told me afterwards he'd thought I'd mmmmmmmissed. Hah! says I.
The bull turned and walked back a few steps and stopped again. I considered another arrow but I knew I'd drilled him so I didn't want to spook him at all. Paul was calling still, trying to keep him there. I was looking hard for blood on his side but there was none. That's about the time a fella starts second guessing himself I guess but about that very second he coughed and I saw blood squirt out both sides 8-)
We called Marty and his guide Jim and waited for them to arrive before we started the track. Marty's my bestest bud and I wanted him there when we walked up to the bull.
