It was nice to be in the woods, but where I hunted with my sons, the deer were staying in the cornfields for the most part. My oldest took his first archery deer (a doe), but he's still using training wheels. It was still exciting helping him trail and field dress his first deer. My youngest son and I shoot traditional bows, but nothing offered us a shot. It still beats just about anything else we could have been doing. I don't get too excited until late October anyway.

I made good on a 17 yard shot at a Big Mama Friday mourning  :archer:

I seen her go down so I called my wife and told her to get David ( my 4 year old ) ready to trak his first deer

Boy he was pumped and tracked like a pro  :goldtooth:

It was my first critter with my Balck Widow and couldnt be happyer!!!!

He was full of questions and as I started to gut her he asked why I was doing that........I said so we can make meat out of her like the meat we have in the freezer.  He looked a little closer and said  " Ohp Yep I see some deer sausage "

David seen some flys starting to buzz around and decided it was his job to keep them away  :deadhorse:

He did a good job!!!!!

It was a good day and Im hopeing to take him out on his first outting in the fall woods this weekend!!

Congratulations on a nice doe! Seen nothing today but killed a Pope and Young Mosquito tonight at dusk.

Doug ,be sure to scout, the deer are on the `Red Oaks` acorns. Get there before their all gone, they won't last long ,and then they move on to the next tree dropping. good luck Chad

I've been tied up with work around the house......but..... tomorrow morning!    Depending on the wind, I have a date with either a big white oak that dropped a truck load of acorns or an apple tree who's branches are sagging with load.  All this rain definetly had an impact on mast this year.  Can't wait to finally get out.

I have acorn issues.  My timber is full of Oaks.  The deer do not have to go far to get acorns.  They seem to travel the same trails out to the beans this time of year.  It just takes them for ever to get to the field because they eat acorns along the way.  I plan to move a stand today further down the trail to go with all these south winds.
Had a great doe 30 yards broadside on Tuesday night.  I just don't take 30 yard shots on deer.  I can hit her fine, just not 100% I would get a double lung with my little draw.  Was hard to watch her stand there:(

Not very many Oaks in the ditches where were hunting this month. But lots of beans around them to be harvested any day. Since my wife (Greywolf) is still suffering injuries due to her breaking her leg in Jan she can't walk very far. She is dying to get out there. So yesterday i scouted a place fifty yards from were we park down in the thickest brush on the farm. I knew the deer cross the road into it so i found the main trail and walked it until i found three more trails coming into it. Off to the side i built her a cozy little brush blind so she could shoot where they all meet. I cut a lot of little trees down at the ground level so as not to show i did too much. Than i made her a trip proof path down into the lair to the blind were all the trails meet. Than for a extra bonus i made a monster scrap with over hanging branches. Sprayed what needed it with scent killer and added our special scrap juice (two MT Dews strained through Mr Vic, some doe pee, an buck pee)to the fake scrap. And left it to air dry out. This morning i snuck into it to give it a run. About 7:35 hear a snap and looked towards the entrance from the field to the lair. A huge doe was coming along checking out the newly made corridor of death. I let her live so Greywolf can harvest her first deer with a bow. Than at 8:30 i heard Buck grunts down in the bottom of the ditch, but he was a no show. Looks like all systems go for that spot. Now bring on Harvest and more cooler weather.

Good husband Vic!  Can you call Bryce and give him some ideas:)  I would pass out if my husband built me a ground blind.  He does hang my stands!
Heading out in the a.m. in hopes of filling a doe tag.  Will check in later.
Good luck to everyone this weekend!
