My 2010 Minnesota Bear
« on: October 01, 2010, 01:40:00 PM »
I haven't been on here much at all this last summer but thought I'd share some news of my Minnesota bear hunt.

Earlier In this years Minnesota bear opener I only hunted 3 days. On a normal year I'd hunt at least 7 days straight If I was still without a bear. I'd also make another trip back up If needed. This year was different being some things came up with my milk hauling business that needed me home shortly after the bear opener and also being I had a Colorado elk hunting trip planned for September 13th or so. Time wasn't on my side (I thought). The Colorado elk hunting trip was suppose to be a 10 day or so hunt for me. I ended up leaving Colorado 4 days early for other reasons and headed home on the 16 hour drive back to Minnesota to hunt me some bear after I made a quick stop at home to say hi to the family and catch a few hours of sleep so I could head out again that evening for the 4.5 hour trip up north.

Anyhow I made the right decision on leaving Colorado. I had 5 days to get It done and get myself a bear. Lost one day to rain, got dumped on with 4.5 Inches of rain In one day. On my very last day which was Sunday the cards finally fell In place. I did 2 things with this bear that I've been wanting to do for a very long time. I hit double digits In bear kills and videoed my 1st ever kill.

The bear dressed out at 160 pounds. Got both lungs and top of heart. He ran farther then I expected, he went 91 yards. The blood trail was awesome!!! I was using a 220 grain single bevel Outback Supreme.

My dad and I.

I had no Idea anyone was taking pics here. Good times!!! I was hoisting dad up to see what the bear dressed out at. We've weighed every bear we've shot the last 25+ years of bear hunting on our own.

Did some thinking and thanking for a bit. Again I had no Idea anyone was taking pics. Sneaky devils!!

2 nights ago my daughter and I got the best meal of the bear. Heart and tenderloins. Man was It good!!!!

Schultzy,

Nice work! Beautiful bear!  You should do like most guys...get rid of that scale and guess the weight....then you could call that a 300 pounder.

Congrats! Double digits, that is COOL! I got my first with a recurve back in '07 and my second last week with my longbow. Nothing better than a trad kill. Good luck to everyone.
BTW my first one was 122lbs & this one was 153lbs. I mean both were 300+  ha-ha-ha

Nice bear! I missed this year and it sounded like a tough year up there where we usually go! Did you hunt NW or NE?
