Hello, I am First Sergeant Vernon Pratt and I am stationed in Afghanistan. My unit arrived here in country last July and since arrival we have with the help of the Michigan Longbow Association opened the Camp Sabalu-Harrison-Camp Cuervo Archery Range. Since opening the range we have had a large turn out of new and experienced shooters. Unfortunately we have begun to run into problems, our equipment is begining to break down through normal use. I am posting this message to all of you in the hopes you may have the un-used but usable archery items lying around that could be put to use over here. Currently I am down to a dozen arrows (usable) and six bows. As I stated most of our shooters are new "virgin" shooters so arrows and bows take a beating. Our range is limited to 25 yards maximum so bows 20-40# are more than adequate, arrows aluminum is king; our only dozen wooden just didn't take the punishment. We have six armguards, but are limited on finger tabs and glove to only 1 ea.. It is my intent that this range be a legacy opportunity that will remain open and available long after I leave this country. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Vernon Pratt
1SG, USA
First Sergeant

I am certain, you will get some help. Can you post an address for groups or individuals to send to? You did not mention what you are using for backstops? Thanks for your service.

No problem, and thank you for your response, I will post my mail address at bottom of this reply. As for the backstop I have a layered styrofoam wall 10 yards wide X 10 feet tall X 24 inches thick; behind that is no-mans land of old russian anti-personnel and vehicle mines. Needless to say lost arrows will stay lost.

How on earth do you post pictures to this site? I have some but I am not savy enough to know how without attaching them as files.

Vern,  checking on the NEW Camp Cuervo Afganistan shirts today to see if they have been printed up.  They are black shirts with white lettering just like you requested.

Jon I appreciate this and I can see these being a good way of supporting John and Camp Cuervo as a whole. I know I will be able to sell a few here, we have a unit from Colorado as well as our own from Michigan here.

I have a dozen or so shorter 27" carbons lying around. Might work for the shorter drawin soldiers. Let me know if you want them.

Wish my sons former 1stSgt knew how good archery can be for moral. They asked and were denied permission to have archery equip when he was at COB Speicher, Iraq. Hopefully next time he returns to A-Stan he will be able to fling some with ya.

Vern, what do the letters TFBK stand for on the arrowhead,

Terry will get you an address for sending the arrows.  They are hurting for equipment.

We are taking several wounded warrior/vets hunting this weekend in the Land of Fred Bear, Grayling ,Michigan.

I've got some gear I can send over; arrows, tabs, gloves, points, feathers, strings etc. I'll have it together by next week.

I'll work with you Fireman to see what we can do. I think I have someone who can get it shipped through the Army.

I'll check with him Sunday since I know I'll see him at church.
