my first
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:32:00 AM »
Last week there was a topic on acorns.... I put my two cents in and added that I had a feeling that I would get my first deer with my recurve this weekend. Well it happened.  It was a small button buck that I thought was a doe.  I would be embarrassed if it wasn't my first traditional deer. I couldn't be happier and my dad was just as happy as I was.
I just wanted to thank everyone on this site that unknowingly helped me become a traditional hunter.  Most of you have forgotten more then I’ll ever know about bows and arrows.... Thanks again.

I would like to think that no hunter would be embarrassed by a deer.

Congrats!

Let me rephrase.  I wouldn't have shot him with a rifle but, since I never looked any other place except where I wanted to hit I didn't know.

The acorns were falling like rain. I can't wait to get back.

Congratulations Blaine!

You have a lot to be proud of as does your dad.

The best way to say thank you is to "pay-it-forward".

There may be someone near you that you can offer help to or when you see a need.. jump in.

God bless,Mudd

Good for you!  Nothing to be embarrassed about with that.  That will be good eating.  The first one I took over 40 years ago was a small button buck and I remember when I took it to the check station I was getting some negative comments from some of the guys standing around.  The game warden walked over, stuck out his hand and said congratulations and then turned to the guys and said "Where's yours?"  That shut them up, then he said, "besides when they are that small they are even harder to hit.  This kid made a nice shot".

Great job.  If anything a small button buck has a much smaller vital area than a big buck.  Nice shooting.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
