Okla opener off to a good start

Saturday morning started off early before day light my youngest son and I were in our stand location, I had the gl2 in hand and was filming Hunter trying to get his first harvest with a bow. We had action right off at daylight but not enough light to film. Around 7:30 and single doe came by giving hunter a 10 yrd shoot broad side his top limb cut the limb to his left and caused the arrow to right over her back. DARN he said. Around 10:30 I catch movment behind us and I see horns, I tell him we have a good buck coming in onthe trail then a young buck steps out hunter passes on him wanting on the bigger buck. But the older buck sinced sompen wasn't right an back out. Made some mods to our stand location for Sunday morning hunt. Didn't get to make Sunday hunt.

I had things to doe Saturday evening so Hunter went and sat on a stand that we set last year just to see what was moving in that area. We were texting back an forth, he was keeping me up on what was going. He had a doe come in but a tree rat spoke it and the a coyote came by but no shot. Then the texting stopped I was wondering what happen then the phone rings and it is him.Yelling I got her I got her. I tried to get him to calm down and that i was on my way.

Hope she is recovered!! I saw none Saturday morning. Yesterday A big doe saw me before I saw her, and that was the end of that. My oldest son was texting me all morning. Seems the deer were really moving this morning. He said it was 39 degrees and he saw a huge buck about 7:03am. Ended up seeing a total of 10 deer, That is good for us. Good luck finding the Doe!!

When I got there it was all most dark he was still in his stand, I went to asking what happened he said a doe came in giving him a 10 yrd shot and he shot over her she bounced out around a brush pile at 30 yrds giving him a good shot and he took it. We found blood right off but then it started to get real sparce so we decided to back out till morning not knowing of the shot for sure. Next morning picked up the blood trail and not 30 yrds passed the last blood that we marked she lyed right there.

Great job!
I saw several does Friday and Saturday morning. It got a little warm for me (had a hard time staying awake).
This next weekend should be spectacular in the mornings and evenings. Might be a little warm through the early afternoon. Good excuse to go fishing.

No such thing as an "old" Brackenberry, they just get more "classic"!
That's a great buck and a proud young man. That wouldn't happen to be the creek bottoms around the Muddy Boggy would it?

Nice deer, a number of year ago I did a summer internship on some land that the Noble Foundation owned that was on the corner of where Coal, Hughes and Pontotoc all meet. We did spotlighting with some guys from Texas Tech doing deer research, and I was impressed with the deer numbers down there, even in the 1980's. If I recall, the Muddy Boggy ran right thru the middle of the 10,000 acres. Didn't get to hunt it, but had all the farm pond fishing I could stand.

Nice doe and buck. Is it just me or do the bucks horns come out of his head sorta' low? Character, you just gotta love character.
