I went out last Sat afternoon. Sat till dark saw nothing but before I went in I had a nice chat with the Conservation Officer. Nice guy. We shot the bull for about 30 min. Turns out he shoots Trad bows and realy liked my 45# 56" Thunderstick Mag. Hope I get the chance to talk to him again.

Had a bear walk by at 15 yrds at first light on opening morning. That afternoon had 3 does within spittin' distance but I don't want to shoot these particular does (they're buck bait). Been out again a couple of times but nuthing but squirrels. Got a real brute of a buck in one of the areas I hunt and I'm hoping to see him one day soon. Gonna have to hook up with Mike and Scott and go someplace that I can shoot a doe!

Where is Deadbolt???? I heard he had moved back up north here but haven't heard from him...

That's a beautiful buck anywhere Greyfox!

Before I moved to northern Jersey I lived in Mystic Islands AKA Little Egg Harbor, NJ I hunted the land right across the street from Viking Yacht Co.  on Rt9 in new gretna, Also hunted the Bombing base off of 529 just west of GSP. Lots of small deer out that way.

I really like the deer up in Bloomsbury, Hunterdon County. Hunted there from 2001 till 2008. Now down in Texas I still haven't gone out deer hunting yet, But can't wait till it gets little cooler. Then I'll be up in East Texas at a friends house.

Wish I could get out more.  These short days are tough.  We need summer hunting.  :)

First day out I shot a doe but my arrow hit a twig and, while I didn't see the hit I heard it.  Found a little blood but lost it in a swamp and I never found her.

Only been out (for deer) two other times.  Got busted once and the second time I had a buck at 100 yards or so, crossing a field and coming into the woods where I have a blind setup.  He got to within 40 yards when the landowner's wife decided she needed to run out for something.  As she drove by the buck turned and went back the way he came.

I'd be out there today but it's just too windy.  I couldn't shoot 12" groups at 15 yards in this wind.

Today I set helped my brother find a new place for his stand, hung it and then made my way to the funnel by a gravel pit where I built a nice ground blind for me and my son to set up in.Tons of activity in the area for now.Hopefully I will be out Wed.night.

I finally got lucky and found some private property to hunt on. Didn't have time to set anything up so I just went in and stood by a tree, I kept scanning the area but not good enough, they came in and I didn't hear them at all. I had about a 25 yard shot but got busted from my slow movement by the one that already passed me.

Next week, up a tree I go. I should have known better today because there was no wind and hardly a breeze. There are some nice trees right by and I'll set one up during the week if possible.

Jersey hunting brings back the memories for me.
I'm sure all the deer are tiny in the pines, but in Southwest Jersey I have seen some fine grain-fed deer.

Years back I was at a check-in station with a doe in Salem County and was told to check out the back of a pickup truck nearby.  A very old deer and not a special rack, but the body was rippling with muscle like it was on steroids.  I am from Nebraska and know big deer very well.  This South Jersey buck must have gone 250lb on the hoof easily.

Every once in a while they grow up out there.
