I love 2016 aluminum arrows
« on: October 07, 2010, 05:55:00 PM »
I've just started back shooting after a several years layoff . I've had to drop down 10#'s in draw weight from what I used to shoot,  and thought I was going to have to buy new arrows . Nope , My old 2016 Gamegetters  fly like darts out of my new 40# bows . They even fly respectable out of my old 33# Wing Slim International . I've always liked the 2016's and find no reason change . I  have some X7 2014's that fly pretty good  too , but they cost more and  the added expense is just not needed . gillchaser

I've been fooling with various carbons from my Longbow trying to get good arrow flight.I fished two 2016s out of my arrow barrel, they fly straight and hit where I'm looking.I put some two blade Zwickeys on them and they are my huntin' arrows.

That's one thing I like about my 2016's . I usual shoot 125 grain screw in points , but I can screw on a 2 bladed Zwicky , straiten the blade  vertically , and go hunt . out to 20 yards , my self imposed limit , there's no difference ; and they seem to group better than the field points . gillchaser

Well, I lost another message out there somewhere. I'll try again.

I love 2016s, too.  I shoot a 45# longbow.  My arrows are 29" four fletch 2016s with a 150 gr broadhead or a 145 gr Field point.  The broadhead has an foc of 16.4 and a weight of 498 gr.  Alex

I've shot 'em out of #40, #45, and #50 recurves and they work well.  Seem to be best out of my #45 Howatt Hunter

2016 Legacy's is all I shoot out of my longbows and recurves. Excellent arrow and very durable. On the average, I'm drawing 44-45 lbs. with my bows.

Add me to the 2016 crowd, too! Shoot them out of my 45# Bear Montana longbow with 125 gr points.

I am shooting 29 inch 2016 Legacy's with 145 grain field tips and/or 150 grain Wensel Woodsmans out of my 50# Grizzly Recurve and they fly like darts. Can't wait to fling one at a deer. Come on Oct 15th.

I find the 2016's and 2116's to shoot well out of many bows including the ones with heavier draws. Dispite claims to the opposite I also find aluminum arrows to be superior to carbons in many ways. I shoot 2116's out of my 60# JH Jet.

I haven't seen any comparisons on incremental force/deflection, aluminum vs carbon for various related sizings.

Carbons being generally lighter, might be more reactive to various shot release inputs (spined fine, just picky on the shooter).

Aluminum sure seems more forgiving.

That is, until you bounce the belly or backline on a 3D target.

There, IMHO, carbons are king.

FWIW I have access to an old Easton assembly line straightener, any time, sweet rig. Even with that availability, I'll run carbons (and yes, i could get bends out of aluminum near the ends- learned that long ago- have/had the knack  ;)

2016's I recently discovered work great out of most of my bows I shoot around 47-50#. I recently found 18 xx78 in 2016's which will be used this season.  Great arrow-

My draw is 29' and I shoot 30" 2016 out of my 45 bows with 125gr. snuffers.  Next year I am going to use 125gr. ace standards, since I have been given a boat load of these broadheads.  I have no reason to change my arrow selection and to tell you the truth even broadheads.  They just work great for me.  (I am sure that the ace's will work great too)
