Swamp buck
« on: October 10, 2010, 10:30:00 AM »
its been pretty tough since i killed the doe.  i have had deer get fairly close but either they wouldnt come in where i wanted em or they were too little.  been eat up with spikes coming in on me and taunting me.

i started the evening out with a short dove hunt bout 3:30 -5:45.  pretty slow there too, but i managed kill 5.  after leaving the field about ten til 6 i got in the woods and settled in up on a ridge that is a big oak flat.

a little after seven i was brough back to life from my daydreaming state by the sound of a trotting deer.  i looked to my right to see a spike ( turns out to be a cool little 5 pt) trotting to a big oak to get a few acorns.  i grabbed my bow and got ready, never had a chance to stand up..which i like to do.

as he fed around i waited for him to come in and feed and calm a little before drawing.  he kept his front leg tucked in keeping me from getting a good shot.  finally he opened up and i drew and focused on my spot trying to push through ( didnt get all the way through again) and released.  here's the results.

went agaist my morals today when i shot this one, but ready for more meat and in the swap they all eat good big or small!!!

3 pc plywood bow/ gt 35/55/ centaur head

deers and doves for me on 10/9/10!

Awesome buck. He reminds me of the deer image on my favorite swiss army knife.

Blood looks pretty good.. what was your opinion on that Centaur heads performance?
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight;nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety;is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I said that because I generally will not kill a Buck unless it is at least 4.5 yrs  old and I'm gonna mount it.  We do a lot for the deer and manage.  Long story on the land, but that part of the place is not as strictly managed as the rest.

The centaur heads are great. I love em!  Great heads
