broad head ? I'm stumped

I put 125 gr Snuffers on a set of cedars and they fly dead on at 20yrds,these are my primary hunting arrows this year. For kicks I took them off and put on 160 gr Hill's and shot them, then replaced them with 160gr Tuskers.

  Now my problem is the 125's are dead on and both 160's flew 3inches high at the same distance(20yrds).I used the same arrows for all three heads and the same nock point.
  So why do the heavier heads hit high. It bothers me and I need to know.Thanks    :confused:

In theory most traditional archers can not see a differance in 45 grain differant arrows.  Most archers can not tell 100 grain differance in arrows.  It has to be a spine change.

could be ur looking higher without thinking about it, automaticlly adjusting for what u think should be a lower impact do to heavier weight??? just a thought

It might be interesting to see the comparison after moving the nock point up 1/32 - 1/16".

I was thinking of moving the nock. They grouped very nicely and I think 45gr would  not change the spine.they didn't hit nock left or right. maybe I am subconsciously compensating.

If you are set-up is not centered for perfect flight and is close to edge of good flight, 45 grains can make difference. My 400 Bemans w/100 gn insert and 200 grain head bareshaft nicely at 20 yards. When I go to 250 grain point, my bareshaft groups are ~4-5"s right.

You will most likely not be able to tell a ~100 gn difference in arrow placement at 20 yards if both arrows are properly tuned.

I think you may be trying to compensate as well. The reason I say this is I have arrows that are heavier overall while using a 145 grain heads, and I also have a setup with a arrow that is about 40 grains lighter but use 175 grains heads and I have often shoot the heavier headed arrow higher.

Even without consciously looking at the arrow the different sight picture created could easily throw you off.  That arrow is sticking out there in front of your vision whether you focus on it or not.  My guess is that is what it would be, and if you shoot them for awhile the computer between your ears will make the adjustment for you fairly quickly.

place a secondary aiming point on the target to put your arrow tip onto, now hold on that spot and shoot your groups and see where they hit in relation to the different bhs used.
Do they all group in the same place or different?

they just fly different. all broadheads fly a bit different regardless of weight. 2 different heads the same weight will fly different if the mass is distributed differently. Also, heavier heads take a different nock...usually...

I always pick a broadhead, tune it in, and then pick a field point separately that hits in the same spot! That way, you don't really care what each weighs, just that they hit the same.

I think Whip's got it.I always seem to shoot about 6 inches low with a new BH for some reason until I reprogram the brain.Not sure why but always figured due to something new in my sight picture.

The only truly "instinctive" shot with a bow and arrow is your very first shot.......

45 grains up front can make a difference in arrow spine.

45 grains of point weight can be as much as 10#s difference in spine.That's a lot.Shoot bare shafts with that difference in point weights and you will see it clearly.Still,the only thing that matters is perfect arrow flight.

Yes,45grains on wood arrows means 3 spines weaker(15 grs=5#)shaft and if you cant your bow the result of a higher arrow is because you are under spined.
