wood arrows
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:08:00 PM »
there is just something about building wood arrows.i have been shooting carbons for the last few years but was thinking of building some wood arrows again. i was talking to a trad friend of mine who said he had some acme premiums and some other cedar shafts that he bought a long time ago and that i could have them.i think i am falling for wood again, it was good to be back at it here is what i have done so far.

I love wood myself....but..boy they don't last very long. I shoot alot and it seems that I go through them real fast. I recently got some spruce arrows from Elite Arrows. I am saving them for a special occasion. I have been shooting Traditional Only from Three Rivers and they are good arrows and last.  :archer:    :archer2:

Nice work! Do you allways use four feathers? Do a lot of people do the same and why?
Thank you for sharing

david i started using 4 fletch last year, they fly great and i dont have to look to nock an arrow thats why i use 4 now and im sure thats why alot of people do too.

seabass,i use a propane torch to carefully burn them there was a time when i did that to all my arrows.

thanks for all the compliments.

Nice arrows. Another reason I shoot four fletch is you get double the wear because you can shoot both sides. Gary

Wow! Those are some beautiful arrows!

Carbon or aluminum are certainly more practical, but I too hunt with wood arrows. I certainly don't have the talent to make them like you do, though.

Chad, real nice looking arrows.I like you are going back to Woodies.I made them for years and kinda got sidetracked by others.I went out a few nights ago and got reminded why I like them so much. When I shoot with wood arrows theres a part of me involved in the whole process. As far as being durable I loose alot more than I break. They seam to last as well as the alternatives.
Quote from Howard Hill.( Whenever he taught someone to shoot) "Son make up your mind right now if you want to target shoot or hunt as theres a world of differance between the two"
