I just found out that my vacation time got approved. I will be hitting the woods hard!

Im sitting here watch turkeys feed through my back yard....and im off to work. Typical kind of luck for me this year. Lol.

Hunted yesterday morning and saw 30 turkeys and 1 doe. The turkeys were at 30 yards and the doe at about 400 yards. I thought about a shot on the doe, but decided against it.  :)   Went again this morning and saw the same little 6 point I missed a couple weeks ago and he was cruising for love. I tried to sweet talk him with a little love grunting, but he seemed to know where he was going and it didn't involve the sharp end of my arrow. I did get wet though! I'll be back at it in the morning.  I was thinking of going and sitting in the rain this afternoon, but I have a dentist appointment instead. Kind of the same isn't it?

I went down and Visited Keith at his camp in Schoharie. He put me in some really nice spots. Unfortunately it is 10,000 acres of acorns and apples.  I hunted over  a few scrapes and had a great time. No deer sighted and no squirrels in Range.

5 days hunting and no deer sighted except if you count the 4 I saw on the way to camp. (guess that makes me a bad hunter  :readit:   :banghead:  )

I got wet this morning and home a little to late to head to the woods for a rainy afternoon. I'll be back at it in the morning.

Congrats Fred

Things are getting cranked up . Saw a nice buck trailing a doe grunting last night. I shot a eight pointer this morning and just drove the 4 wheeler up the road and saw a huge buck standing in the dirt road looking down the hill for does. It's rainy and turning to snow flurries tonight. Get in the woods !

Charlie, you are a great hunter. It's the finding part you need to get better at.  Besides you'd probably just shoot over them. Now Becca, she'd probably make a good shot on one!  :)

Terry, I cant disagree with such logic after I assume your conclusion comes form hours of observation in the outdoor labratory.

Tomorrow I am going to try still hunting. Stand hunting properties where deer only travel through temporarily is tough. you have to be there when they are moving through and if they have any distractions on neighboring property, guess what, you are not seeing deer or they will be running.  Usually they have been nocturnal.

I have some public property that has deer but they are a tough hunt too. They hang out in areas that they can sense you from a half a section away. My hope, with this rain and a slow walk, and the geothermals I may get a shot opportunity.  I also hope they are somewhat acustomed to smelling hikers.  Most hikers dont stink as bad as me though  :readit:

Charlie, you are definitely getting after them. It is only a matter of time I'm sure. I thought you were just across the river from me.  How far North are you?  You need come on down and hunt with me for a sit or two. I'll be going in the morning before work and Sat. most of the day. Mon. before and after work and maybe Tues. morning before my son and I head to Indiana to try our luck.

With my job being the way it is, I can't get back into the woods until November 13th. Hope to still have some action then..... I've go the following week off from work and you can bet I'm gonna use it!

Hit the woods Mikey Style this morning.

I was still hunting and had a deer on my back trail. I hunkered next to a couple trees but the deer smelled my track and went back the way it came. Later on I happened up on a little buck who was bedded about 30 yards. I didnt see him and he jumped as soon as I exited the brush. I dont think he knew what I was but he didnt stick around to find out.  Wjen he stood up I went for the grunt tube only to find I must have dropped it.  Finally I saw a deer after 6 days of hunting hard.

I'll be back in Washington County Tomorrow!

Going for a throw back hunt in the AM. Taken my 67' Bear Kodiak ,3 cedars with Bear Razor heads and going for walk on some state land not far from home. Same as I did when I was a youngster.....and that was a long time ago. Hope everyone has a good and safe hunt this weekend     !!
