Finally a good morning to hunt coincided with a day off work!!
On the way down the road, does were were running around all over the place... I figured that had to be a good sign! Got to my treestand,got dressed and was settled in about 15 min. before shooting light. This is a new spot I put up on public land in a good stand of oaks, and which gives me a good vantage point to overlook the area. The feeding sign is definitely there, but was having a hard time picking out the trails to it. SO I decided to set up and watch a time or 2 and find where the critters are coming from--maybe have to adjust/ move again.
Early morning was a bust.....but lots of little critters to watch. Finaly, about 9 am ----some excitement:I spotted a NICE 10 pt. with another smaller buck with him about 40 yds behind me. They walked around munching acorns and I watched as they ambled on down the hill away from me. A bit later, I caught a spike walking up the hill behind me about 20 yds away. He walked up a ways, then turned and galloped right back down the way he came. Not sure what that was about; tail wasn't up----just went racing back in the direction of the bucks earlier. Caught sight of another set of antlers about a 1/2hr. later, but couldn't really make out much in the brush.
Might have been a good day to stay out all day, but.......things to do and was getting hungry already. I've been busted once by a grumbling stomach w/a buck below me. The curious look on his face whane he looked up at me was comical!! He never did make me out, but 3x he looked up after a tummy rumbling and I think he just got fed-up with not being able to figure it out :D
Going back out there this afternoon, to see ifany deer are actively feeding there. If not, I may have to move this stand down closer to where the bucks were coming and going......
Shoot straight, all >>>---------->
