Just got back from South Texas
« on: October 18, 2010, 03:01:00 PM »
Hi guys,

I just wanted to share a few pictures from my hunt this past weekend. I went to visit a childhood friend who is living on about 1000 acres in S. Texas. We mainly went to dove hunt, but I brought my bow along too of course.

It’s pretty rugged land down there and not many people so it’s really quiet at nights. The brush is impenetrable in a lot of places as you can see below. There is a good amount of oil and gas activity down there, and during the night you could see the flames from the oil rigs and at times they make this eerie droning sound.

We were able to lure in some hogs and I got one with my Kanati longbow. The STOS broadhead sailed right through like the little guy wasn’t even there, and stuck about 4 inches into the dirt. He did me a favor and ran about 60 feet down the road before he fell. I sure didn’t feel like dragging him out of the thick stuff.

I had a great time and can’t wait to do it again.

Thanks guys!

It is pretty awesome. Pool table, poker table, full bar, awesome bucks for inspiration, and even it's own bathroom.

Your friend has a very nice place. South Texas is rugged country. The foliage that grows there will stick, stab, spike and claw you if you inadvertently brush up against it. It's a game rich environment for pigs, javelina, deer, quail and doves. This is why I like to hunt south Texas.

I guess you were down past Three Rivers or down 37.  That brush country is something to see.

Neat camp.  I was told years ago that it was not a south Texas deer camp unless you had a pool table.

Good job on the pig.
