Be safe

Just a general plea to protect yourself out there. The season is only a few days old here in NY, and I have already had two people that I know fall from treestands. A third(friend of my niece) was killed, and the other two are in serious condition with life altering injuries.
Take the time and effort to incorporate a harness and climbing rope into your routine. It may take a little more time and cost a little more money but I am sure your loved ones will thank you.

I agree. I started using a safety belt when we had our first kiddo. Seems like we need to protect ourselves for the sake of others sometimes.
God Bless,

Same here in PA. Two guys I know who had a harness on but not hooked up going in and out of stand fell. Both are real messed up. If you are not hooked all of the time you are just buying time. tm

Another good reason to hunt from the ground...and keep those broadheads covered until ready to shoot.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

Hate to hear this. I wear a harness while in a climber but normally don't in my ladder, but will probably start wearing all the time. Each season I get more and more nervous in a stand, but I can't get my ground game going, so safety is number one.

I forgot to mention that these guys were all 30 or under. Prime of their life, and one mistake has terrible consequences.
Good luck out there, and be safe.

Man,is this thread hitting home!I had a helluva scary experience in my climber lasnight.Would get too long giving all the details(I still can't believe it)but I'm sure glad my harness was already fastened to the tree.
Always wear a harness and have it attached to the tree at all times.I know everyone has heard it a thousand times but it's so true.Always let someone know where you are and carry a cellphone.Hunt safe and smart!

I've kept my feet on the ground for the last 4 years and no regrets at all. The treestand is a n awesome tool but it can come with a terrible cost. Only treestand I would ever consider now is a ladder stand. Being that I hunt state land, it's not really an option.

I have to echo this! 2 weeks ago I and my friend were hunting on some public land and I had text him that I was heading out, he text me back and said don't leave yet...then he called me, he had fallen out of the tree while trying to tighten up his cable, very scary! He is very blessed to be alive, although he sprained his ankle and is still sore 2 weeks later! Be Safe!

Also.look for snakes. I read in the newspaper a day or two ago about a local gentleman who was fly fishing. He was working his way up a stream and was struck by a rattlesnake. He died from the strike. I know I sometimes get careless and don't always pay attention where I place my feet when hunting.

Todd, I just brought a thread to the top. Check it out, it is simple and works with whatever safety harness you are comfortable with.
