What a morning!
« on: October 20, 2010, 12:41:00 PM »
What a morning in the woods.  Today was the first day that I've been able to get out this season.  I woke up late, jumped in the shower and got to the woods just before first light.

I was able to get to my tree with out scaring TOO many deer.  Although, manage to bump a buck and 2 or 3 does out from under my tree.  All morning I had constant chasing going on.  Had a doe walk to 5 yrds from my tree.  The arrows "tinkt" the seat of my tree stand, which put her on alert.  She was quartering perfect.  I held low drew and released.  right over her back!  I did manage to shave some hair! guess I didn't hold low enough.    :banghead:   The worse part of it was that I hit a rock with my broadhead and smashed the $#!^ out of it. About 10 mins later, I look behind me, and theres about a 15" wide 6 rummaging behind me. Watching him for awhile, I hear a loud BURRRRUP from in front of me.  Glassing, I see buck raking the crap out of a sapling. When the buck stepped into the opening about 50 yrds away, I could see its 2 little spikes.  I was dying! Someone must have told him that he was a big buck.

all totaled, I saw 11 different deer, 6 were bucks. All before 930 am.  There was chasing going on all that time.

It was a great morning.

That's a great morning all right Sean with all that deer activity. You timed your first day perfect it sounds like. With all those deer you should have a fun time this season, shoot straight!     :archer:

Man sounds great, can't even imagine it.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Just this type of experience rivals or possibly exceeds one that ends with a harvest.

Thanks for sharing.

Congrats Sean!  You didn't kill a deer but you certainly put yourself in the middle of them.

I went this afternoon and saw 8 skin heads. Had one monster old doe at about 30 yards. Just a tad farther than I like. Still a great evening.

Glad to see you had a good first day out. I didn't see a deer my first day, except when I was driving to my stand in the morning. Good to know you saw some chasing going on. I was talking to a guy at work today about that and he hasn't witnessed any bucks chasing yet.
Good luck!
