Quiet Footwear
« on: October 20, 2010, 07:25:00 PM »
What are your recommendations for quiet footwear. I like to drift around the woods and my current boots are a bit too noisy for my taste. I don't want to give up on traction and stability.

only suggestion I have is get them from Cabela$ they have a great return policy.you can wear them and return them within 30 days for a full refund. At the price of boots thats the ticket.

Brain tanned mocs. hands down!
I dont slip around much but when i do i can move like a gost in my mocs.
Its enough to protect your feet but you can still feel everything you go to step on.
There are two draw backs though.
#1 your lay down sent but from what iv been told latly your lay down sent no mater what.
#2 if they get to wet there feel like snot  :)

Bears feet boot covers work good for me, I would like to try the danner jackal boots though.

LL Bean's Maine Hunting boots are quiet, but I find they don't offer any ankle or foot support.

I've been using my Merrell Chameleon's until the weather gets too cold.

Probably the quietest soles are the plantation crepe, but they do not give good traction. Airbob soles are fairly quiet too and still have good traction. One of the quieter soles on the market is on the Irish Setter Gore Tex Chukka. Russell Moccasins makes expensive boots but they can be made with a wide selection of soles and are custom built in an effort to fit the feet of the individual customer. I have 2 pairs and am semi-satisfied with them. If your feet are a fairly standard size, I would suggest the standard makes of boots because they are half the price and often more comfortable. My problem is a narrow heel and a normal toe forefoot width that makes most boots fit incorrectly. I look for Goodyear welts on boots that I want to be quiet because I can always resole them if I decide I need a different sole. Russell will resole virtually any make of shoe that has a Goodyear welt.

I use mocs. made with double bottom buffalo leather, with the thin rubber ice slide ons, you know the ones that have the little carbon spikes sticking out, this way I don't slide around. If an arrow is buried, and you step on it, you will feel it.

Mocs or LLBean Maine Hunting Shoe. depending on the weather, these are my two top choices. I usually wear mocs if it's warmer and dry, Maine Hunting shoes if it's colder or wet.

For the record, I wanted to share some info on Bean Boots that some may know, but it is not obvious or even in the promotional info.  The standard Pac boots from LL Bean look the same as the Maine Hunting shoe in the pictures and in the product description, so it didn't make any sense to me. I  had to work my way through several customer service people until I got a lovely lady who had obviously been there a long time: she informed me that the difference is that THE MAIN HUNTING SHOE HAS A SOFTER SOLE AND THEREFORE IS MADE THAT WAY BECAUSE HUNTERS WANT A SOFTER/ QUIETER BOOT FOR WALKING IN THE WOODS.

I have a pair of Oakley boots spec ops design and the sole design rolls perfectly and are silent. Best part is they are the most comfortable boot I have ever worn. Second most comfortable and quiet are my wolverines.

Any hard rubber sole boot is going to be much louder then mocs or a tennis shoe type.

Last time this came up someone posted about a really good crepe soled desert boot. I ordered a pair-shop was in the UK. Perfect transaction, quick inexpensive shipping and a good quality article-google; I can't remember the outfit.
