New Wes Wallace Longbow
« on: October 21, 2010, 12:51:00 AM »
I just took delivery of my longbow and wanted to share some pic's. I'm so happy with Wes's work. This bow is flat out awesome to shoot. I never had a 66" longbow before, so smooth and powerful! I wanted a dark beautiful bow made for hunting and He always has nailed my expectations perfectly.

The bow is 66" 61#@28". It is a two piece with Moose antler on the back of the riser. Macasser Ebony in the riser and limb veneer with red glass, white micarta and black phonalic accent stripes. The limbs are also footed. Bamboo limb core is stained. I recieved the bow, set the brace height and shot a group the size of a baseball at 16-17 yds. right out of the box. Then the groups continued and got better. This is my first 66" longbow and I'm so amazed at the smoothness and power of the draw and cast. Wes has always nailed my expectations and exceeded them.

I'm sorry, this bow is entirely too pretty to take hunting.  I think there is some sort of state law involved here.  Sorry.

Thanks, all credit has to go to the maker! I know the maker made him to hunt, so hunt he will! I have been shooting Carbon Express 350's with him. I have about 275gr. up front with 660gr. total weight and seems just about right. When I can start building my own wood arrows, I would love to shoot wood through my longbows and use the carbon for the curves. Right now time and money keep me from getting into it. I'll have to rely on a friend to help me find some woodies for him. But till then these heritage 350's work pretty good!

That is one truly beautiful bow. Your wood choices came out perfect, just awesome. Congrats, and good luck with her!   :clapper:

I have 2 other Wallace takedown longbows, 62" 51#@28", 64" 56#@28" and this one66" 61#@28". I built this battery to have light, medium and heavy for close, medium and far. It is so awesome to have set this up this way. The Carbon Express Heritage arrows in 150,250 and 350 allow me to have anything I need by just switching the same componets around. Those 150's with a 100gr tip are scary fast, and the 350's are quiet and hit like a freight train with the heavy bow. The light bow loves the 150's with the 145gr. tips and can handle up to medium game with ease. The middle bow does everything well with the 250's. It worked out pretty cool. Still, when I can, I want to shoot wood through these longbows. As soon as I can pickup the necessary tools and beg for some help getting started. I've always had in my mind to shoot the carbon through the curves and wood through the longbows. Don't know why? Just seems like the right thing to do, why is that?

I shoot aluminum with my recurve but I'm the same way in preferring wood for my longbows.

By the way, what was the wait time for your bow?

Wes is always 7 months out.  I have ordered 6 seperate bows from him for the wife and I and the time wait has been 7 months every time.   I just paid for Tricia's bow coming in November and a new one for me that is 6 months out now.

Thanks.

Looks like I need to place an order soon then if I want to have it by next summer...

...Of course it will probably take me another month or so just to settle on my final choice of wood combinations.  :D

Best of luck to you Rooselk! I'm in Iowa working, brought my bow to play with. Just a while ago I stuck 4 arrows together all touching from about 18yds. I'm so pleased with this thing! I know I'm just not that good, must be in the bow somewhere!

So far, and the jury is still out, Black Magic. I thought it was a he, did you see something I missed? Something sticking out somewhere? Ideas for names accepted and considered.  :)
