Late Oct Rut sign
« on: October 21, 2010, 05:31:00 AM »
What are you folks getting for rut sign. Is it spuratic or intense. I've had some really good scrapes a few weeks ago now there so so. I've got some very good rub lines forming up. I figure when this second wave starts things should kick into high gear.

I've been out just about every day, and have seen zero rut activity as of yet. Hope it appears soon, but I'm guessing that it will show up the first week of November, like it usually does.

It seems to me rut activity varies. In this part of the country we have what I would consider poor deer density. Finding scrapes and rubs has been difficult in those years where there are a lot of does...this is one of those years. Bucks don't need to advertise so much and our cameras are showing us more and more bucks with does rather than with other bucks or they are by themselves. To me they seem to be cruising already and hanging out at our stands, not feeding so much but looking. We are also seeing more photos of "unknown" bucks...new to us. Typically this time of year we will see lots of bucks for a few days  (newcomers) and then never see them again. This will continue until about mid Nov. then things seem to get back to normal. My plan is to set up in areas that in years past have shown the most buck movement as they seem to prefer certain travel corridors on our small acreage. We have four or five local bucks that we know and recognize and expect to see at least that many new bucks in the next 3-4 weeks.

It is a little so-so here also.  I have even seen a buck chasing a doe.  The scrapes are dwindling, but they always do.  They will pick up hot and heavy again in a week or two.

Plenty of rubs, one incident of chasing, but not a single scrape yet. I haven't been in the woods since Sunday, we will see tomorrow.

I'm actually seeing more rubs and scrapes this year than I have in the last ten years for the same time periods! Can't wait to see what it does in november.

This year has not been normal here. Usually I see alot of activity the second week of October and this year nothing. 28 days before the real rut there are always a few does that come in early, but not this year. The guys are not moving, only seen a couple so far. The does and fawns have been slow, but moving in normal feeding patterns.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Young bucks are starting to bump harass the does.  Haven't seen anything mature acting "edgey" yet.

Scoured the woods last Saturday in Central Pa and found no open scrapes and limited rubs.

None of the usual scrapes that have been consistent for YEARS have been opened at all! Weird!  :(

Pretty slow. The first scrape and rub we found were this past weekend. Only 1 of each!

I seen some scraps erly october, but they have been the random field edge scraps. A few rubs here and there.
Its been warm here in mid TN. I think things should start to pick up soon.

Really slow in my part of the woods...North Central Missouri., i'm have not seen the rubs and scrapes or deer that i usually do by this time of the season...some of the crops are coming out of the fields so maybe things will change here..weekend shows some rainy weather ,hope that will make a diff in deer movement...

Few rubs and a couple field edge scrapes,  nothing real exciting yet.  I need to drive over to Adeeden's place, sounds like 40 minutes East of me is where all the action is.
